Hi all, I have already upgraded to the latest legit firmware. and that was after I uninstalled and reinstalled the drive. I used to could play cdrom's and dvd's from my pioneer dvr-105 drive but now whenever I put a disk in the drive I get "Please insert a disk into drive E" that happens when I go to my computer and click on drive E when I have a disk in the drive. I hope my drive has not gone kaput! If you guys have any suggestions (I hope its a simple thing) I would greatly appreciate your help. Thanks, Jack
No I only have one pc hoping its a setting I screwed up or something any ideas on things I can check before I yank it out?
How old is your drive? Why did you reflash the firmware in the first place? Is it detected in the BIOS correctly? Does windows detect your drive correctly? Is the ribbon cable seated correctly? Are your jumpers set correct - ie Master or Slave and not conflicting with another device? Try commercial dvd's in it - what happens? Try blank dvd in it what happens? Try Blank CDR in it what happens? Try Blank CDRW in it what happens? Try original music cd in it what happens? Yes, alot of questions.............
Thank You for the reply I have answered all the questions below. How old is your drive? The Drive is about a year and 1/2 old Why did you reflash the firmware in the first place? windows was not detecting disks in it that it uasually does so I decided to try something. Is it detected in the BIOS correctly? I don't know how can I check that? Does windows detect your drive correctly? It detects it but says that there is nothing in the drive when in fact there is. Is the ribbon cable seated correctly? yes I opened the case and verified this. Are your jumpers set correct - ie Master or Slave and not conflicting with another device? in hardware properties there are no conflicts and windows claims the drive is functioning properly Try commercial dvd's in it - what happens? I have tried commercial video games which it detected before with no success. (I dont have a commercial dvd) Try blank dvd in it what happens? I have blank DVD and it does not recognize it Try Blank CDR in it what happens? does not recognize it Try Blank CDRW in it what happens? dont have cdrw Try original music cd in it what happens? it does not recognize it Thanks, any more suggestions?
On Bootup you should get an initial screen as it goes through a process called POST - Power On Self Test, this should actually display the hardware that is connected, however if you have a 'logo' screen enabled you may not see it. However you should see text saying something like enter x to enter setup. Usually it is Delete or F1 or F2 to enter setup - this is the BIOS. On the first page it should list your hardware that it has detected. And here it should say your Pioneer 105 etc. I think it will display your burner as your operating system receives the information from it, so if you see it in windows, then more than likely your BIOS has also registered it. Just one thing to check for, does windows report it as a Pioneer 105 or is there some other type of text there - ie Pionn, meeq 19005 or similarish? I have to be honest, if it will not detect ANY of the range of discs I suggested, it may well be screwed. Strange though as usually, either the dvd part OR the cd part will fail first rather than them both.....but it can happen....... Did you flash it BEFORE this problem occured OR as a consequence to try and rectify it?
I flashed it after so rolling back the driver will not help. I agree it's strange that I can insert and eject media and the drive is functioning properly according to windows but it will not even try to read the disk when I put it in the drive. When I click on the drive in windows it just says please insert something. No matter how much I yell at it and tell it the disk is in the drive it does not care... Sigh... Ya everything checks out I think it is toast. Thanks for the awesome effort.
Sorry we couldn't get it going....... It always upsets me when a Pioneer visits the 'burning graveyard' as I believe other brands should go there before they leave the factory........
LOL, forgot the 'Plextor'......humble apologies........ May I be whipped and thrashed for not remembering...LOL
WOW thats a nice drive I think I will replace mine with that! Unless you think there is a better one available
Thanks for the welcome, Nephilim. I not only saw the 716, I lost sleep thinkng about getting one. LOL It will have to wait a bit, but I will have one in the next few months.
