    Hi all,

I've been playing around with new skins for windows and now when I reboot I don't have a start menu, just a desktop background.

I can hit control-alt-delete and run programs from there but I don't seem to have the explorer.exe running in the processes.

Do I need to reinstall explorer or what should I do?

try going to task manager->new task type "MSCONFIG" without paranth
if selective startup is checked then go to sevices tab and make sure computer browser is checked

otherwise check diagnostic startup checked under general tab then restart if explorer comes back disable the skins

temp solution is to just go task manager->new task-> type "explorer.exe"

    Thanks for your replies guys

Unfortunately I've tried all that with no success. Spent the whole day (literally) looking for the solution..

Strange that I can still access everything.

I was using tuneup utilities when I orignally hit the problem. I was installing new desktop themes which were css or mss files. The ones that tuneup utilities wouldn't accept I was loading by simply clicking on them. Must've killed the explorer.exe or hijacked it

When I start in safe mode, I can't load a page in the visual styles. It says "theme disabled". It asks me if I want to enable it and when I click yes, I get a beep from the computer.

Guess, I'll have to back-up and reinstall windows...
