Which Netbook should i get the Asus EEE 1000HA or Acer Aspire One I prefer 10inch netbooks no smaller thxs. Plz tell which would be better and which is more reliable. Asus EEE 1000HA: http://www.amazon.com/10-Inch-Netbo...?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1234640066&sr=1-19 Acer Aspire One: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1234640353&sr=1-16
I can't comment on the Asus but i have nothing but good things to say about the Acer; i bought the 120GB Aspire with Linux with the intent of wiping it and putting XP on it. I updated the BIOS and put XP Pro on, and it's stable for weeks at a time. Not a lot to say about it as it just runs (and runs)
This is basically what it comes down to: Asus build great products, but they're drivers and programs are absolute shit. Asus is great for system builders who have knowledge about troubleshooting and such. If your computer fails you will have no grief getting a refund, but they're solution to every form of support is "Reformat your PC". Acer builds products for people who just want it to work, and that's it. The first Acer package I bought was a $2000 bundle including Acer speakers and all. The speakers came with a broken plug, and the computer worked for about 3 months and they didn't accept it under warranty? But they're support is good, and they will help you with your problems. I had a bad run with them, but most people seem to have no problem. It just comes down to what you're going to use it for. I would personally go for the Asus, but a novice would go for the Acer.
Iv got an asus laptop. Its the best laptop iv ever had. Well made and feature rich. I was very impressed for example with my laptop it came with a 6 cell battery which is quite bulky and sticks out the back of the laptop. Therefore, free of charge, they include a 4 cell which is a flush fit free off charge. It also came with a case and other goodies you wouldn't expect for free. But as mentioned above. The drivers are absolute S*** Lecsiy
ok well i bought both asus and acer laptops 8.9in screen....asus has 16gssd and the acer has160ghd the asus has lot less cpacity but is a whole lot faster and yet the acer has intel atom 1.60ghz the asus has intel celeron 900mhz????go figure reason i have both is testing them out plan on takng one back......not sure yet....i hate acer but i also hate intel celeron.....what do u guys think i should do....also iv read that the 900mhz ssd is faster then 1.6ghz atom but the ssd has a write usage limit but less likly to crash compared to hdd....idk guys its a tuff choice here....in my past xperince asus lasted years wile acer lasted 7months and still under warrenty i had to pay to get it fixed..when it comes to chip sets i trust asus also the asus has better sound
It's early and this reply might not read correctly, i just copy/pasted the my post wholesale from another site where i discuss the Acer... I highly recommend the Acer Aspire One, it's plenty powerful for some games (detailed in the netback gaming thread) and has more than enough grunt for heavy browsing/application use. I deliberately bought the 120GB Linux version (but it seems they brought out the 160GB version after i bought mine, GRRR!) to wipe and put XP on; as it's a HDD i have the full version of XP Pro on there, zero performance problems. In fact mine is now used as a torrent machine, it's left on 24/7 due to it's miniscule and money-saving 30W PSU. Let's just say it has bags of grunt for many concurrent *cough* downloads. What i wouldn't recommend is an SSD version, i've read nothing but severe tales of woe due to SSD's being incapable of any usable performance. I've read that XP has to be stripped down via nlite or similar, but i'm not convinced that would make up for the SSD's (lack of) performance. SSD's are excellent for secondary storage ie a great alternative for a glorified USB stick, not for primary use ie running an OS from. I keep meaning to buy a 16GB SSD for my AAO, for now i make do with a budget 4GB card, very good performance from it, but as i say, i wouldn't want to run an OS off an SSD, certainly not a Windows OS anyways. I don't use any of Asus's kit personally, so i've had to google and it seems Asus's Celeron is a bit faster than the 1.6GHz Atom CPU in the Acer, but the power consumption is worse in the Asus - that alone would rule out the Asus for me, add that to having no proper hard drive and it's a one horse race in my humble opinion. edit- however there are quite a few different netbooks out there now, i guess there's not much between them, apart from some are way more expensive than others.
so the asus eee pc 900 (900mhz celeron 16gig ssd) is a poor choice compared to the acer one 1.6ghz atom 160gig hdd? keepin in mind i am a gammer and a *cough* "dvd movie fan" plus a business man so i must have reliable fast web browsing and email checking abilities......so far playing dvds on the asus is a con but playin them on the acer is a pro......dvds wont play on asus with external cuz of lack of codex......acer plays right out of box with an external....also the asus when i side by side compare is much faster not only on boot but shutdowns and program loading........what goes under the little cap under the aspireone? i opedmine and see nuttin there as to thr asus there is the ssd and ddr2 ram stick.....how would i upgrade the acer ram to 2gig r 4 gig stick if no lid to it? also what is the mp on the acer cam.....the asus 900 is 1.3....the acer cam seems much quicker and has less lagg and the sound on the asus is so much louder and claims to be hd...as to the acer well....not as loud unless there is a way to amp it
As i say i'm not au fait with Asus but i'm not aware of any current SSD that's built into a netbook that can compare to a hard drive performance. As to codecs, as i swear by the K-Lite mega codec pack i don't have issues. As to email/web browsing, netbook CPU's are plenty fast enough. As to gaming, on my Acer Aspire One i play Urban Terror, Insane (very good, older driving game), Microsoft Madness, and Quake Arena too, network Quake and the olde worlde Doom. My Acer has 1GB of RAM, more than enough for me, if you want to upgrade the Acer you have to open up the entire machine, there's youtube tuts on it.. doesn't look too difficult
and the sound dont bother u on the acer...... its quite......ok scratch the fact of names.......16gig sdd 900mhz celeon....compar to 160gig hdd 1.60ghz atom.........u say the acer is fast enuff for u....but how is it compared to the asus ssd celeron remeber minus the asus and acer names....off suject.... u being a mod u should look into puttin a chat room on afterdawn.com.....i also am in a car forum...6gc.net u should check out there chat room they just put up it nice to have... edit: ok after going back and rereading ur post i c u dont compare the ssd prformance to the hdd as hdd is still in advanced...how do the prosecors compare...sry for spelling altho the asus is like 10sec faster then the acer .....but for how long?...it doesnt seem to go thu any loading the files and programs seem to pop up on click
Good point, the sound on the Acer does leave a lot to be desired, my Acer is now a torrent machine so i forgot about the sound, it's basically got a crappy little bottle top of a speaker. You're better off researching the SSD side of things more as it's your money we're talking about here , the only ones i use at the moment are removable SD cards, i just read lots of bad reports of built-in SSD's
u read alot from gammers or just random ppl.......i just want the most reliable not one thats gonna crash after warenty is up one i can use every day and yet still behappy one i can check my mail with every day one i can watch movies on wit out it laggin and digi pixlin one strong enuff to handle backing up dvds......what do u think.....im ready for bed im tired...but this comp thing is keepin me up.....plus i am in future getting a toshiba laptop......the small one i want for road use and hooking up in car (car spec)...yet still play games on and surf web...(not while i drive of course)
I try to avoid anything written/posted anywhere by gamers, i go looking for articles and reviews by normal people
lol....so after knowing my wants and reasons do u still recomend the acer?......is the hdd more reliable then the ssd......is the atom more reliable then the celeron.....should i aviod the atom and find a hdd with celeron.......r atom with ssd....can a sdd built comp be swaped with a hdd if ssd goes out......and vice versa
