Alright, I've never installed a mod chip or hard drive but could you look at this link and tell me if this is a good deal. Also, after I install the chip and hard drive, will I be ready to go since the hard drive has progs. pre installed.

I would checkout a Xenium GOLD Solderless: http://www.xbox-modchips.com/xenium-gold-solderless.htm

These are the latest Xenium chips on the market and come with the latest Xenium OS.

As far as the hard drive, its very easy and cheaper for you to pickup your own hard drive and download an Auto Installer disc. This will install all the programs you speak of and it will save you $50 - $100 :)

So can you buy any HD or is there a cetain kind I need to buy? If you have a suggested hard drive in mind for the best price, can you throw me a link... Where do you get the auto installer disc? I'm pretty sure my xbox is a 1.1 but is there a way after I open it up or does it really matter if it is a 1.1 or a 1.2. Should I really feel this clueless when it comes to this stuff? TY

This is a Xbox hard drive compatibility chart: http://xboxdrives.x-pec.com/ these drives are capable of locking (which will allow you to get back to the original MS DASH and such) The list is a bit out of date though... but its a start.

There is no size limit to the hard drive you can install ing your modded xbox, just the size limit of the current drives in production.

http://www.xbox-modchips.com/tutorials.html has lots of links for places to get bios's and ways to determine your xbox version and installation for the Xenium chip (the gold is so new, it is recommended you use the ICE installation guides as the GOLD uses the exact same solderless adapters)

    http://www.xbox-modchips.com/tutorials/xodus-sp-solderless-tutorial.htm

the above guide is what you will need for installation on a v1.0 - v1.5 XBOX w/ the xenium solderless kit.

Its quite understandable that you feel like you do, hell when I started modding xboxes i was much worse off then you. I had no Idea where to go or what to do. And back then there wasnt nearly as many helpful tutorials or people out there as there is now :)

After alot of reading and question asking you should be good to go.
