Hey, i just got my dvd burn 3 days ago and struggling to burn dvds...i am using a lite-on dvd burn with dvd shrink and nero 6. the media is RIDATA dvd-r.... any wayz. when i go to burn my dvds i use the dvd shrink with the settings to burn using nero. the target dvd size as 4.7gb's. i burnt THE BOURNE IDENTITY and when it was finished. i went to play it on my computer and it worked fine. when i went to test it out on my tobisha dvd player it didnt work and it also didnt work on my playstation 2...my tobisha dvd player plays burnt dvd's and my ps2 does to.. the weird thing is all the media is on the cd stright from the bourne identity but yet it will not play...... another problem i have is copying a copy. what i am saying is. i have a couple cartoon series which have been burnt on and as dvds by other people. i am unsure of how to burn them. i burn them using dvd shrink after i open the file. but when i go to play it. well it doesnt really play.. ive wasted like 3 dvd-rs... at this point i dont want to waste ne more since i am not totaly sure on how to burn dvds
It might be the blank media that you are using or the formatt did you try using DVD+r. Did you trying playing the movie in a friends dvd player. How old is you stand alone dvd player?
If I'm not mistaken, Toshiba DVD players are known for often being unreliable for playing burned media of any kind. You can see if there are any comments to that effect for your specific model here: http://www.videohelp.com/dvdplayers
Look the best thing you should do is buy a DVD-RW or DVD+RW and testing it on that insted of a DVD+\-R and when it comes to berning an alredy copyed DvD u should just use nero strait copy or BlindWrite 5 also good program and as for the vidio playback make shore to always finalize disc because the DvD player and PS2 mite have truble piking up the disc
Hi there, lifesux4u. This ongoing problem depends on both the stand alone DVD players as well as on the DVD burner model and what firmware your DVD burner has. It is true that many of the so called popular branded DVD players do not play the diverse range of DVD-/+R/RW medias out there. Indeed some do play, but that’s if you’re fortunate. Oh yes, if it doesn't read the DVD-/+R media it more than likely will not be able to read the DVD-/+RW media as well, so safe your pennies and try upgrading or flashing with an up-to-date firmware. I have had this experience of incompatibility prior to upgrading the firmware for my DVD-/+RW burner. Now with the new unofficial firmware running the business I can even play my other so called, and more commonly known super cheap DVD-/R/RW media on all of my DVD players, including the top end ones. As I’ve said before, and indeed even some of the senior members have mention it too, is that the cheap Asian manufactured DVD players out there are the ones that are truly compatible and friendly with all sorts of DVD-/+R/RW medias out there. So it’s not always the case with the disc itself being defective or poor and causing the incompatibility problems. Check your DVD burner model and download the appropriate firmware for it. I was fortunate enough to stumble on an excellent firmware that addressed much of these issues which you’ve outlined in your post. I was lucky enough to have been able to upgrade my DVD-/+RW burner to the new format doing the rounds now, to a Dual Layer burning DVD burner. If you have the Lite-On family of DVD burners then you ought to check out this firmware page http://codeguys.rpc1.org/firmwares.html and download the appropriate firmware for your DVD burner. But before doing so, please read the Welcoming message and understand what the risks of upgrading your firmware presents, as it voids all warranties with the manufacturer. Keep that in mind. Also, it would be wise to download the [bold] official firmware [/bold] from your DVD burner manufacturer’s website, as this official firmware will serve as a cushion for you to fall back on if the upgrade to a new firmware fails to provide any means of a solution. If however you have the [bold]Lite-On SOHW-812S[/bold] model DVD-/+RW burner then you might want to read up on how to upgrade or flash your downloaded firmware by referring to this little mini-guide on this link http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/97865 by scrolling down to the fourth post and your set. ============================================================================================== EDIT: Fixed to whom the post was addressed to.
That's a good point. Those Lite-Ons are good drives, but a lot of people seem to have problems until they update the firmware.
