My laptop has a Sony DVD RW drive. I have been installing and unintalling apps today, including AnyDVD v5.6.3.1. When I installed AnyDVD and rebooted, it said [bold]'No DVD drive fitted/installed'[/bold].It also said that some components of DVD43 were still on my system and would conflict with AnyDVD. I then manually went into Regedit and (maybe foolishly) deleted any reference to DVD43. Upon checking My Computer, sure enough, the DVD is not shown. In Device Manager it shows up but has the old yellow exclamation mark against it. I just can't get it to show up. I have tried System Restore but it wont restore. I seem to think I've done this before but can't remember how I got it back. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Ang.
I've had exactly the same prob with an LG DVDRAM (LG 4163B) - disappeared after installing/uninstalling Nero. Just posted my cry for help today. If you hear how to pls let me know. Likewise, I'll tell you if I find a way. My current strategy is to get hold of the original drivers for the device then via Device Manager / Properties update the drivers. LG site only offers updates to firmware not the original drivers. Maybe your manufacturer is different. Might want to try this. Ian
Thanks Ian, I can't seem to find a driver either. Firmware yes, but no driver. Windows now recognises the drive but each time I boot up it finds 'new hardware' and asks for a driver to be installed but I don't have one! Angus
