Hi, I'm having lots of issues getting even a single good burn. Previously, I was using a roomate's laptop for all of the burning, and I never had any issues. We used AnyDVD, Shrink and Decrypter without any problems. Now on my machine (laptop), I have AnyDVD, Shrink and ImgBurn. The movies I have tried (and failed) to burn are Superman Returns and MI3.

DVD Shrink makes the ISOs without incident, and I've done this many times before. The problem is that ImgBurn stops with an error (usually either 2% or 14% - depending on the movie): "Failed to read from file, reason: data error (cyclic redundancy check)"

I have attached the error log below, maybe that will help in the diagnosis. Also for completeness, I am using an external DVD writer (my laptop only has a CD writer) so this DVD writer is new - maybe that is causing a problem?

As I said, I have a lot of experience doing similar backups, but not on this machine/DVD writer setup. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you,

    Mike

    Hi mpoday
You can try the tweak for shrink w/ InmgBurn and see how it goes:
    tweak.
This will give you autoburn using ImgBurn.

The 2 movies you mention have nothing more than CSS copy protection on Region 1 so shrink can handle these alone.

Check your hard drive too since you are getting the CRC error from there.
Run this chkdsc(scandisc) - you can use the graphical one (guide).

May take a bit but let us know how it goes

Ok, so I did the chkdsc, and it ran for 6 hours. There were many messages (say 20-40) where it said "windows replaced bad clusters" and gave a file name. Is this normal, or indicative of a serious problem. I am not at home now, so I can't check if it will burn properly now.

Also, to avoid any hard drive issues, I will connect an external hard drive, and burn the image to that. Then I can try to use ImgBurn from the external HD to the external DVD writer. This should show if my internal HD is the problem.

I will update after trying these out.

check the disc cyclic redundancy is a scratched disc or just a bad copy try a different movie and a laptop to burn movies is weak you will frag the hell out of your main drive I like ImageBurn it worked for me for a while and I started getting errors so I started using DVD Decrypter agin and now no more problems I not sold on ImageBurn yet

    @rbrock
The crc error mpoday is getting is from the file on the hard drive not the disc :)

Not normal - that's quite a few bad clusters. Hopefully windows was able to fix/repair them. This could be a sign of a serious problem w/ your hard drive. It was more than likely the reason you were getting the crc error.
    Run a defrag now too.

Bypass that internal hard drive like you posted. Yep will show you where the problem is.
    Keep us posted!

Thanks for all the help. When I store the ISO directly to the external HD, and then burn from there, it works great.

    You're welcome :)

Might want to try the internal hard drive and see where it stands. Still having a problem - time to try & start getting what you want off of it.

Go idea Binkie! mpoday start making backups of all your files music and pictures befor the hard drive fails you might get lucky it it will be ok but you can't have enough backups. A great program to help kept your drive in good shape is System Mechanic 5 or System Mechanic 6 I'm using 6 I started using this when it was System Mechanic 3 it's a lot of help , when you burn a movie on you main drive it frags the hell out of it even after one movie, I use a external USB drive on my PC for the temporary folder saves my main drive from the abuse
