I just bought a new LG enV, and in an effort to save a few dollars, I bought the USB data cable and CD drive off Ebay vs spending the $30.00 for the Music Essentials Kit...which I didn't even know was available when I ordered the other crap off of Ebay. I am have a ton of trouble installing the software, and the software that is needed to actually perform the functions of transfering data, is NOT included in the stuff I bought. I am to obtain it on my own off the web...but I'm lost as to where I should even look, what I am looking for, what's a secure place to obtain it, etc.

I'd like to be able to transfer data, DL some music to my phone, etc.

    Can anyone help?

    Thank you in advance!!!

I just purchased an LG VX9900 ENV and was just about to do what you did... purchase a cheap USB cable rather than the music essentials kit so thanks for giving me the heads up.

Apparently the program BitPim just came out with a new release that supports the VX9900, see http://www.phonenews.com/content/view/1704/9/ and http://bitpim.sourceforge.net/

Also while I haven't tried it (I haven't tried anything yet) I see LG has PC Sync Software at
    http://www.buywirelessnow.com/lg/buy/accessories/cat/556

And finally here is a post on cellphoneshacks.com comparing USB cable vs memory card for transferring. http://www.cellphonehacks.com/viewtopic.php?t=55894&start=0&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=

Hope this helps and I would be interested to hear what you find works.
