help needed to recover a maxtor external harddisk

    i have a 250 maxtor external harddisk part of the data is lost. i used a programme from the maxtor web to recover it however it could only recover part of it. it says if i want to recover everything i need to buy the product. any one know where can i get good free software to do the job ? i tried google it but the software coludt recover everythingt

    i dunno why most of the programe have problem reading my harddisk. it gives a msg saying unable to read file. isit because its unrepairable

    what do u mean by does it click ? i can scan for the fils

    Try running a chkdsk /r on the drive
