Hi all, On average it seems to take me about an hour just to burn a dvd (without deep analysis). I have a TDK Indi 440n that is supposed to write at 4x, however for the first 30 seconds it burns at 4x then 3x, 2x then finally after a minute or two it goes down to 1x. My question is I uploaded the newest firmware and it did not seem to improve the time. I use Roxio DVD Creator and haven't had any problems at all just seems to take alot longer to burn then most people. Is there any way to keep my machine to burn at 4x instead of droopping to 1x? I do enable the buffer underun? Could that slow it down? Any adive would be greatly appreciated as I am new at this, but have had great success other then the slow time burning.
PS I have a Windows ME Pentium 4, 1.3ghz, 256 RamBus memory Dell PC with 40 gig h/d that I keep 22 gigs open just for DVD's.

Do you have DMA enabled on your IDE controllers?
I have WinXP but FYI this is how I check:
Start> Rt. click on My Computer> Propertys> Hardware> Device Manager> open IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers> Rt. click primary IDE channel> Propertys> Advanced settings (do the last 3 steps for the secondary IDE channel also)
Thats the first thing I would check.
    Good Luck,
    Frank
