Hi pagansoul Illegal disc errors are usually caused by the burner firmware not supporting the media you are using. Even though you have the latest firmware doesn't look like it supports the discs you are using which are made by Ritek. Not bad discs but not compatible w/ your drive. So switch the media to something like Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim or made in Japan Sony, Fuji or Maxell. Moving this to the Nero forum too
hmmm, that is odd. the labels on the dvds say they are memorex, and since i have a memorex drive, i guess I assumed they would work, but i will take your advice, thanks.
Memorex is just the brand name - they contract their stuff out to different manufacturers. Just like the Memorex drive you have - it's actually made by LiteOn

I would crossflash the firmware to LiteOn's firmware but the sites that have this firmware are down right now. Even though you have the latest firmware it's a bit dated so some 16x media might give you this error. So far 2 have. You can wait for the patched firmware or in the mean time try and find some 8x media to burn. Though another thing I would do is also look at getting a new burner - good ones now only run about $35-40 (US)
