I own a Sony HDD camcorder and I can get the files off of it to my Mac. I want to create movies for my family in iMOvie and the files that come off of the camcorder are MPEG's.
I browsed on your site here and downloaded the VLC software and I can watch the videos now on my mac which is great, but iMOvie won't recognize the files.

What should I download (preferrably for free) so I can convert the MPEG files so iMovie will recognize?? There are so many choices out there and I honestly am kind of green with these type of file formats. But I am familiar with all Adobe software; Photoshop, Bridge,InDesign, Illustrator etc.

My goal here is to create DVDs for my family in iMovie..and convert these MPEG files quickly.
    Thanks! - Jessie

    I have what you have!

Copy your videos to a folder [2nd copy]. Open Quicktime PRO, convert to .mov format by exporting them. I export all my MPG videos to MP4 format and then you can open in iMovie. If you save them in .mov format they are not compressed liek a MP4 format and work faster.

    Cheers!
