    Hi All!
I bought a Philips pbdv1640p DVD-rw drive and until yeasterday have had no problems with it. It will read and write any DVD media but it stopped reading or writing any CD or CDrw at all. Last thing i did was listening an audio cd in Windows Media Player, next thing nothing. It seems the laser tries to read the CD about three times and fails and the CD doesnt spin any more and there's no information coming up. I upgraded to the latest firmware but nothing, still the same.
    Thank you in advance.

Try right-clicking on the Drive letter, then click on "Recording" and make sure and make sure there's a check mark in the box. Click Apply and OK. Caveat: If you're using Nero's InCD or Roxio's equal, this checkmark must be removed.

    Hi, thanks for your replies.
Yes, it does record and play DVD media, but it wont read or write any CD or CDr or CDRW.
    Kinda weird innit?
When i insert an audio CD or blank CD the drive tries to read it but then it stops spinning the CD, and nothing comes up. Last think i remember doing was to listening to an audio CD and going from track01 to track 08, then suddenly it just stopped working on CDs.
The Enable REcording was anabled by default and tried to disable it and enable again, but nothing. It still playes and records DVDs but no CDs.
    Its really crazy.
    Thanks for your help anyway.

i would try just re-installing the drivers for it, or look at the your hardware manager to make sure your computer is reading your drive correctly
