I have a laptop with an usb2 port - i want to add a dvd writer but want to do it cheaper than getting an external writer and still have portability - the plan is to get an internal dvd writer and a usb2 to ide cable to connect the dvd drive to the laptop - my question is will i still need to find an external power source for the dvd writer or will the usb2/ide cable do the job ( ie as if it were inside a pc ) ?
    Hope this makes sense !
    Cheers

    Hi,

You're asking about an external case that houses an internal drive aren't you? Those come ready to power your drive as well as provide tha data connection :)
