Hi, sorry if this question has been asked but I have searched the guides couldnt find an answer as well as hours on net search trying to find an answer. I am following oneacer guide (07.06.04) in this site to burn with dvd shrink and decrypter...to the letter I might add. I burnt successfully and then out of the blue some of the discs were not able to be read by either media player, stand alone player or Power DVD.

I used the nero function to read info about the just unreadable burnt disc and it says the following:
    BOOK TYPE: DVD-R
    DVD SESSION
    SESSION 01 (4,466MB)
    TRACK 01: 0 4,572,256KB Data (mode1)

the ones that have been sucessful read as follows using nero info function:

    BOOK TYPE: DVD-R
    DVD SESSION
    SESSION 01 (4,466MB)
    TRACK 01: 4,572,224KB UDF/1SO9660(mode1)

    Im using a Lite-on DVDRW SOHW-812S.

I would appreciate any advice as I have now wasted about 10 expensive blank dvds and I really dont understand why its happening. Any help will be muchly appreciated. Just a point I did uninstall and reinstall both programs just in case that might help.

Mulit-posting never helps your cause ... and is against forum rules.
    RE: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/93819

Why don't you try posting your guide, or the thread you found the guide in. (07.06.04) doesn't help very much. Also what brand of media are you using? And are you using Shrink(actually Nero) to burn or Decrypter(ISO's) to burn?

thanks for the reply, I did put the thread in the forum where I originally got guide from but got no reply as yet. Thought since Im a new to all this that I would also put it in newbie forum.

Im using Princo dvd-r x4 and I have tried both ways...dvd shrink...burning with nero...dvd shrink burning with decrypter...I have also just tried using trial version of dvd fab and region free and same thing again....

oops sorry forgot to put guide in....here it is....

    Here is the way I do it;

    Simple DVD Backup Steps

First create a folder for your HD backup. Try to put it someplace where you won’t forget it (i.e. C:/All DVD Work/ (movie name will appear here).

Next download DVD Decrypted (link below) and under mode select “ISO, Write”. Un-tick the box that says “verify”. Where it says “source”, you’ll leave that blank, as DVD Decrypter will find the location of your backed up DVD file automatically. Lastly, where it says “Destination”, select the drive where your burner resides. Feel free to close DVD Decrypter; DVD Shrink will open it when it needs it.

The link for the newest DVD Decrypter -
    http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_rippers/dvd_decrypter.cfm

Download DVD Shrink (link below). Open it and click “Edit”, then click “Preferences” on this page we’re going to select “DVD Target Size” as custom and set the size as 4360MB - we do this to make extremely sure that our disc isn’t too large. Then under the “File I/O” tab un-tick “Enable burning with Nero” then click “OK”.

Place your original DVD in your DVD-ROM drive and a DVD blank in your burner’s drive. (Many people suggest using Ritek G04, Verbatim or media boasting “Advanced AZO Dye. All other media could very well cause errors, only the very best media should be used for DVD Video backups. Now is definitely not the time to put your cheap stuff in, although there are a lot of people that have success with the cheaper media including myself. )

Now, take just a second and under “Target Device” go to “Select target device” once there, select “ISO Disc Image”. NEXT, IMPORTANT, tick “Launch DVD Decrypter to burn the output image” box. Finally, where it says “Select target image file”, browse till you find your created folder for your backup and click “Save”. That’s it! Click “OK” and DVD Shrink burns that ISO image to your HD. It then opens DVD Decrypter and has it burn the ISO image to your waiting blank DVD.

P.S. Before you rip with Shrink, you have the option of selecting entire disk or selecting re-author. Most of the time before I rip with Shrink, I select re-author and then double-click on main movie. This moves over only the main movie to the left to be ripped. I don't even bother with the menus, as you can still select chapters with your player.

Don’t use your PC for anything at all while it’s working. -

    Good Luck

OK. I looked for the guide you were referring to. It is actually the Scuba Pete Guide to using DVD Shrink & DVD Decrypter. Reprinted by oneacer.
    http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/88268

First you said that some disc's worked and some didn't when using Decrypter to burn.
Then you later said that you had used both Nero and Decrypter to burn.

What program made the working disc's?
What program made the non-working disc's?
Are you saying that both Nero and Decrypter sometimes work and sometimes don't?

ok sorry for not adding enough info....I firstly just used dvd shrink. The first 3 dvds I made did not work on my stand alone player but on my friends...so I did some internet searching and following the guide I added I used dvd shrink burning with decryper. I made about 10 working dvds..which were fine and easy to do. Then using the same procedure they no longer worked. I then tried again using dvd shrink burning with nero. That disc worked. The following one didnt. I have since then tried using Nero Recoder 2 and burning with nero 6.3 and got a coaster. As I said I have tried using dvd fab burning with dvd fab and same again a coaster. I tried again today going back to the dvd shrink burning with decrypter hoping my luck would change but it didnt. Difference this time is that nero disc info will not read the disc once burnt, power dvd freezes when trying to play, media player freezes also..when put into my stand alone player I get format not recognised. I get that too when I take burnt dvd out of rom from power dvd player. Hope this all makes any sense...thanks again for reading...and trying to help.

thank you to one and all...all the advice was greatly appreciated. went out this morning and brought some of the media suggested. I got Verbatim...DVD-R (Super Azo) and I just successfully burnt my first DVD since getting the Princo media.

Being a newbie I relied on advice from friends who have been burning dvds for a while and it was from them that I was told to get Princo. They have never had any problems...(lucky them). But as I see it you live and learn and I now know that Princo is not right for me.

Again thank you and Im keeping my fingers crossed that it wasnt just dumb luck this time and that I continue to have success with my dvd burning.

    Happy burning...thanks frankie

I know you guys will be sick of hearing from me soon..... sorry

just tried another burn...all went well till it went to burn....nero froze...came up with writing lead in...then...address lock.writing short lead out...

sorry didnt get the correct wording....anyway had to end task as nero was not responding...

I checked the disc and nothing responding with this disc...I used lite on smart burn to see what it said and it read as follows:

    Drive Type DVD DUAL
    DISC TYPE NO MEDIA.

Im stumped...does that mean its a faulty disc ...??????? or is it to do with the burning of the movie...can you believe all this for a movie my mother wants..."an affair to remember"....maybe its an age thing movies over 20 years old dont want to be copied....lol...

    frankie65,

If your following the guide you posted to the T ... then your not automatically burning with Nero, right? ie. Your opening Nero separately and burning?

    And your burning ISO's, right?

sorry should have been more specific in details...the first one that worked I used this procedure...

    DVD decrypter first
then I went to Nero 6.3
used nero dvd recode Dvd movie
just followed step by step the process
burnt automatically after recoding thru nero
and ended up with perfect copy.

the second I followed the same procedure...and only hit problem when it went to burn.

I am doing one right now different movie...using same procedure weird though not sure if its because movie needed to be adjusted to fit target but instead of analysing, encoding and then burning...once movie adjusted to fit target and clicking next it has gone to encoding only not giving me option to burn..just encoding and loading to hard drive folder....

Im assuming that once this is done I have to then burn it through Nero but surely I dont have do the whole encoding process...would I just open nero burning rom and burn as a dvd/video file...??????

    God I hope I make any sense....lol

    frankie65,

Sorry so long to reply ... Thanks to IcabOD, I read it again.

Ok ... this method your using is using Nero's Recode 2, right? If it's loading to your hard disk and not giving you the option to burn ... it's because your choosing your hd and not your burner. When you choose your hd it will create a video_ts file, which you can use Nero to burn(like you said).

Here's a lil guide Bigorange wrote for using Recode2:
After reading through all your posts, it appears your steps are correct since you are able to get a successful burn. So lets look at your system. Can you post your system specs? Have you tried updating your aspi layer and is your burners firmware up to date?

Hi thanks for the reply and the guide for nero. Now I know it will seem probably very trivial but after all the coasters I made...I changed the media I was using. I was adviced that Princo were not that great and so I went out and got some Vertabim and some Ritek and would you beleive using all the same procedures I have now burnt 6 in a row and not one coaster amongst them. I dont know if it truly is only the change of media but hey its workings so Im grateful.. Thanks for all the advice and the help. Should I have any more dramas I hope you wont mind me coming back for some of your experienced advice...thanks again frankie
