    Hi

I have used the afterdawn guide to convert an .avi file to a DVD. However, the original .avi had black bars at the top and bottom of the screen, and after converting to a mpeg it seems to have lost the black bars and stretched the picture over the whole screen. This makes everything look out of proportion and squashed.

Can anyone advise as to what is causing this, and offer a solution.

I would really appreciate any help. I used to convert .avi files to VCDs no problem, it is only since I bought a DVD burner I have started having problems!

    Thanks

Does the converted file play with black bars when you play back on your pc?? If so, check your display settings on your DVD.

If it doesnt, have you told your converting software to keep aspect ratio?

    Regards

Have you checked the display settings on your dvd player, is there anyway you can change them? has someone changed them without you knowing? just guesswork here mate, but there is a setting on mine that can have the stretched affect too, it looks soooo bad, try playing with the aspect settings on your dvd player, letterbox etc.
    Hope it helps
