Hello everyone, i'm new to this so have a few questions if anyone can help please. 1) I currently have sky but want to get a sat to flash. The previous owner of my house had virgin so can i hook up to this? If it is no longer active do i have to get a tv package with virgin or can i get just broadband? 2) Can you reccomend a sat box to get? I don't know weather to get a hd one or not. Can you reccomend a hd box and standard one? Where can i buy one from? 3) How often do they need reprogramming? Is it easy to do? Thanks for you help everyone Michael
you say you have sky so the dish is working i take it,(the way things are going now it would be better to have broadband)the dreambox is a good enthusiasts box(lots of software about for this box)there are a few models the cheapest being the dm500s. a hd model would be about £200 or so(be aware that a lot of these boxes are clones,they work just as well as the original but they require different software what they call clone friendly)as for flashing a box its not that hard at all(but for a newbie it will take a bit of reading and some patience and you will get there)google dreambox and get an idea of the boxes out there first and the cost,then you need to look at your computer. all newer computers run on windows vista(which is no good for flashing really)and newer computers wont have a 9 pin serial port on them(they will have only usb) so you need a computer with windows xp(i have 2 computers a laptop with vista and an older desktop with windows xp that has a 9 pin serial port on it)of course you can use a newer laptop that has windows xp and only a usb port but you will need two cables a 9 pin null modem cable and a usb to serial adaptor cable. so this is a start for you to be going on with,let me know how you get on and what kind of channels you were hoping to be getting.
Thanks for your help piopat. you mention about me having a working dish, which i do, but why does this matter? I thought you needed a cable line to connect to. If this is not the case can i connect to the dish with a sky broadband service? The channels i'm after are all the sport and movies. Can you get the foreign channels that show all the premier league games or do you need a large dish for them? Thanks again. Michael

sorry for confusing you. I'm new to this so still learning. the channels im after are basically all that you get with a virgin or sky subscription, Sky movies, sports, mtv, living, etc. (i could live without sports if necessary cos i can use sopcast) So can you get sat boxes and cable boxers to provide this? if you use a sat box do you need a virgin or sky broadband service to hook upto. I've been reading up on this the last few days and people are talking about a 'change over'. Will this stop the cable and sat boxes working for good or will new codes come out. Thanks Michael
the change over as you say is on the way(its cable companies upgrading the encryption they use to nagra 3)this cant be fixed at this time. so the options are simple its either pay sky for a satellite subscription or your local cable tv provider,or you go down the cs route(cs is cardsharing)for that you will need a broadband connection. you cant just go out a buy a box and hook it up to vi--gin like was being done all along no box can unlock n3 and no box can do likewise for sly channels. if you want to go down the cs route you will need broadband and a box like the dreambox connected up to the broadband router by using an ethernet cable,you will need a computer which you have,and you will need to put software in to the box to make it work. its not very hard to do but it takes patience and time to learn about what you need and what needs to bo done to the box. there are threads on this site you can look at to learn about cs (click on the links below for these threads),all tho this site is not a cs site and rules apply so we all need to be carefull talking about certain things so no one gets banned. that said they have allowed some threads discussing it which is great. so i suggest you have a read of the threads and decide what route if any you go down, and if you need help i will try to help you and im sure all the other lads also.
Hi, I'm new to this so forgive me if my questions seem to be stupid. I have a digital box. The make of it is "The Box Super". What i need is the numeric code to open up the menu so that i can input the new codes required for the ch***us package. Also, when and where do i input this numeric codes. Belive it or not i had this code and i have missplaced it. Not very smart, I know.
i cant give you codes for your box but i can tell you how to open the secret menu. press menu,while on installation type 1570 on your remote and the secret menu will appear, go down to nagravision and press ok. here you will need to select chorus and then go down to where you enter the codes. there are 2 lines of code, one line starts 00: then the code, and the other starts 01: then the code, enter your code and then save, just below where it says nagravision you will see emu(make sure its set to on)if its off you just use the right arrow button on the remote to switch it on, then exit back to the tv channels. to get codes you could try to google bigmaq.
Well PIOPAT the initial 4 digit number worked and everything came up like it was suppos to. Happy days - got the stations back within a half hour of your mail. Sorry it took so long to get back. I have another query. I have another TV down stairs as well, but in the sun room. I ran a coax cable from the "main tv to the one in the sun room. I can get the standard 15 channels on the tv in the sun room when i plug the coax cable into on of the ports at the back of the super box. When i plug it in to the tv out port beside the scaret socket, i get two other stations plus the one i'm viewing on the main tv (eg sky sport). The only problem is that i don't seem to get any sound when i have the tv in the sun room switched onto the one i'm viewing on the main tv (eg sky sport) if i change it onto either one of the other two channels, i have sound. Is there something i'm doing wrong, or can you help me out here. I have about 20 guys coming over on Good Friday to watch the Leinster -v- Munster match and if i don't have this set up right there could be trouble ........
woody i couldnt say why you lose your sound in the other room sorry mate ,one of the other guys on here may be able to help you with that problem. glad you got your box sorted out.
hie i want to jtag my starview box but there is no jtag points on the box tried to check most of the forums but cant find my box ..its writen starview rev a 2008/03/10 help
