Ok I know I need help and I have no idea where to start. What I would like to do is play with my camera I have both a digital and analog. I would like to play with the movies and produce a few DVD disks. What would you recommend as far as software? I prefer to stay away from the real complicated programs however am able to learn new tasks. I currently have a radeon video board with analog input. Is there a reason to upgrade besides speed? Thanks for your help.

    Hi,

I don't know of any free program you could use, I use the Pinnacle Studio AV/DV PCI card and analogue adaptor. This comes with the Pinnacle Studio 9 software to capture analogue or digital video and convert to VCD or DVD. You could instead get a plug in USB box to use instead of the PCI card. Although you have stated you have a Radeon card, there are numerous versions, so your capture quality may vary depending on what card you have. This software is obviously not free, but is extremely easy to use and will enable you to edit scenes and add menus, transitions, voice overs and music. Video editing was the main reasoning behind spec's used to build my latest PC, as using an Athlon XP 2000 was just too slow for me. This software is very demanding on a PC so either have loads of patience or money. Now using an Asus SK8V MB, FX53 CPU, 2GB Corsair RECC TwinX mem, 4x WD Raptor 74GB HDD (Raid1+0), Connect3D Radeon X800XT PE video card, Win XP SVPK2, and Pinnacle still tries to use all the system resources.
