I have been given a video file saved as AVI. The problem being that the camera was on it's side when the footage was taken. I know I can turn the picture 90 degrees in Windows Movie maker, but I don't know how the get Win Movie maker to recognise and AVI file. Any solutions ?
You should download some codecs, I use them to import AVI into Windows Movie Maker. I use this codec from DivX DivX Codec Here I think that is the paid for PRO version I forgot how I got my free version, but if I remember, correctly it came bundled with this DivX package it, if I remember correctly is a fifteen day trial, that is long enough for you to import that file into Win Movie Maker, and they let you keep the codec for free after the trial is finished. Something you should rememberwhen importing an AVI file into Win Movie Maker make sure you do it the proper way by opening Win Movie Maker, clicking on the arrow pointing down next to "1.Capture Video" and then clicking on "Import Video" The rest is self explanitery, but just because I feel like it I will continue, browse to the folder where your file is kept, in the newly opened window, choose the AVI file, then click on import, and Windows Movie Maker will do the rest for you buy importing the AVI and automatically creating clips Some Advice, That Might Potentialy Be Useless When Importing the file, some computers may look like it has frozen and when you decide to move that little window around it will start to mess with the on screen graphics, here is what you do, just leave it alone, even if it looks like it is doing nothing, it will do what it has to do, eventualy, standard time for a typical home computer to import a file, depending on the length and size, can be five minutes or three, if you are lucky, high end computers can do it faster though.
BluRay,\thanks for the update, but I am so stupid. The file was MOV not AVI. I downloaded Win AVI which did the job OK, but with a watermark thar costs $29 to remove. I hve looked for MOV to WMV, but nothing is available. I guess my son is not so clever as he thinks - to record a movie with the camera 90 degrees out !!!!!!! Thanks again
