I have been using Windows Movie Maker and was wondering, after I compile the clips for compilation DVD's, how do I convert it to playback on stand alone DVD player. My DVD players are newer than 2 years old, but don't have some of the newer playback feature, like windows playback. Do I have to convert the files into another format and then rip/ burn like a standard backup? I have some AVI clips and I'm sure some of the others are WMV. Or does Movie maker convert the WMV clips into AVI files? Also, are there any freeware programs that have this capability? I'd use DVD Shrink/Recordnow Max to rip/burn-if appropriate.
Well You should not be useing Windows Movie Maker because it renders your Projects to WMV Format which is a Very Low Quality format and going from WMV to DVD/Mpeg2 will result in a huge loss of Quality...If you can you should be rendering to a Low Compression AVI format at 720+480/576-Pal and at 29.97fps/25fps-Pal, Then you will need to Convert these AVI files to Mpeg2 DVD compliant Format useing a High Quality Mpeg2 encoder, You can use Tmpgenc for this, It is Free for mpeg2 encodeing for 30 Days, After it has been encoded to Mpeg2/DVD the Files will have to be authored to DVD useing a DVD authoring Program which you will use to add Chapters and Menu"s and Finally output to a "Video_TS" Folder that you then burn to DVD...You can then Watch the DVD in your DVD Player....An easy to use DVD authoring Program is "Tmpgenc DVD author" you can download a 30 day demo from the same place as you can download the Tmpgenc Mpeg encoder.. (http://www.tmpgenc.net/) Whatever you do Try to avoid rendering your Projects in WMV format because it is too highly compressed and of low Quality, If you have the Disk Space try to render to Uncompressed AVI or even DV AVI....Cheers PS: If you Plan on doing a Lot of Video Work you should think about getting a good Quality Video editor that will do most everything all within the same Program, If you PM me with your Email Address I can send you some sugestions for some programs that should do what you need....Cheers
