    Hey all,

Have been browsing these forums and guides for two hours, and haven't been able to use much of the information to help my situation.

    Here's the deal.

    Running: Win XP
Software: DVDShrink, Nero Burning Rom 6
    Media: TEAC 4x DVD+R
    Burner: Richo MP4502A

Am trying to backup a DVD (this is the first time I've done this), using DVDShrink and Nero to burn. I decrypted the files fine, and compressed using the reauathor mode in DVDShrink. The compressed files then playback fine, with audio and video in tact. Took the files over to Nero.

Used the 'DVD-Video' mode, labelled the disc MOVIENAME. Put all the files in the Video_TS folder. Clicked burn. No problems while burning. All ok. Tested the DVD in my set top DVD player first (which, according to several websites, should indeed play DVD+R). Just hangs. Tried it the drive I burned it in. Computer freezes, have to switch off at the back. Tried in an LG internal drive, same problem.

I repeated the process, following the tutorials on the DVDshrink website to the letter. Same thing happened.

This is really irritating, and any help you guys can give me would be great. I'm starting to think it might be the media I'm using...when I put in a blank one, it recognises it, and the burn goes ok, but with these playback issues only occuring once the files are on the TEAC blanks, I'm thinking that's the problem...any one else have any ideas?

Am going to try burning a DATA DVD to see if I have the same issues.

    Somebody did their homework!

Just a thought, you might try enabling the "Burn With Nero" function in Shrink's settings.

    Edit>Preferences>File I/O--->Enable Burning With Nero

This will allow Shrink to start burning via Nero as soon as it's done ripping/compressing without any intervention on your part.

    Hope this helps :)

can you please tell me if it is possible to copy a dvd using movie clone without it putting the subtitles on it, as i am unable to turn them off on my dvd player. Or is it the kind of disk used?

I would encourage you to try a different media source. I prefer Sony or Memorex. Personally, I have had nothing but bad luck with TEAC. Also, DVD Shrink will utilize the burning engine from Nero to copy to a DVD so there is no need to fire up Nero and attempt to copy the files from within Nero. Another tip: go to http://www.google.com and search for DVD43. Download, install, reboot. Life is a little easier and less frustrating if you install DVD43 before you start any backup process.

sounds like your pc and dvd players are having trouble reading your burned dvds , could be your media try ritek or vertabin media as they are the best , also dvd43 is available at this site just type it in the search although i think different type of media is your answer.

Thanks guys. I'm going to buy some different media today. If it turns out to tbe the media - I should have known! Considering I bought a 10 pack for $25 Australian, and all the other better brand 5 packs were going for 20.

I had the same problem when i started to back up my movies don't go for cheap media as you'll end up with read errors which causes the dvd to freeze and skip ect. What i did was to take everybodys advice and try to find a media that your drive likes and stick with it I use Ritek go4 silver top as this works on my drive,iv'e tried other riteks but i still got read errors but i don't get any with the ones i'm using now....HAPPY BURNING :)

    allthings,

There's a little sometimes fix it's to compress your DVD to somewhere around 4.2GB even. For instance when using DVD Shrink, open it and click “Edit”, then click “Preferences” on this page we’re going to select “DVD Target Size” as custom and set the size as 4200MB By reducing the amount to be burned you can stay away from the edges where the dye tends to be uneven and the discs may be brittle.

It may help use up those "el Cheapo" you have left -

    cheers,

    Pete

Thanks guys - tried it with a TDK DVD+RW and it works perfectly both in my drive and in my set top. Will also try to use up the crappy ones I have left - don't want them to go to waste.

Hopefully the TDK DVD+R's will work, too.
