Hey

hope you guys can help me

I Downlaod AVI Movies And Then Convert And Burn Them All In 1 Process To Dvds Using Cucusoft Software

but if i have a AVI file thats say over 780mb once its converted i cant burn them to disc as the size is over the 4.7gb limit

so if i want to convert a movie that over 800 i cant and theres a few film i need to do

can anyone help to get around this problem??

Not familar with Cucusoft but there should be somewhere to set your average bitrate, something like Advanced. More bitrate = larger file but better quality. Get yourself a Bitrate Calculator, enter video length and leave audio bitrate at 224. That will give you the average bitrate to use in Cucusoft for a regular DVD (DVD 5) and here is a good Bitrate Calculator: http://www.videohelp.com/calc

Could you view it at that link, if not, you will need to download the Sun Java Plugin first. I consider this the best Bitrate Calculator but there are others, you can find them by doing a Google search for them.

 

I have used cucusoft a very long time ago..I thought it was trash do to the very poor results...catchy movements with lots of pixelization on every conversion I did with it..I cant remember if it had a DVD size pre-set..when converting from AVI to DVD..I have not yet seen a program for setting bitrate to meet a DVD5 output size. the bitrate is auto set by the DVD size pre-set, although..Mistycat may know something I dont about that..??
Anyhow..I would dump CuCusoft..DVDsanta is trustworthy and easy..nero7 ultra has a lengthy full use trial period, and in nero7 is a sub-program called neroVision..that will also do the conversions to dvd5..
with those programs the AVI size does not matter..the conversion to DVD then gets recoded to meet the DVD size pre-set DVD5 or DVD9

 

ConvertXtoDVD encodes to either DVD-5 or DVD-9, automatically, depending on which setting is chosen and is, in my opinion, the best 1 step program available. Fast and easy and excellent quality. I believe WinAvi has this option, too, but not sure. I may have misunderstood but all the encoders I ever tried had to have the Bitrate manually set to fit a DVD-5, TMPGEnc Plus, Procoder, CCE, etc. and now I use MainConcept. Don't set the Bitrate properly and the output won't fit, the DVD preset is too large for most DVD's. Nero is very good from what I read but I never used it. Most people say it's excellent and others say it's slow.

 

I keep hearing alot about "convertXtoDVD" that it is a user friendly program..
I also use TMPGEnc 3.0 & author 1.6..you can adjust bitrate..and override the DVD5 preset..but,I believe the auto preset sets the best bitrate to meet the strict DVD compliancy of TMPGEnc.
I also use CCE stand alone to convert AVI to the elementary MPV&MPA streams..there is no bitrate setting ...I use DVD Lab pro for the Authoring..that program also sets bitrate by pre-set..you can manually adjust bitrate..but the margin of adjustment is very limited to the programs configuring of the loaded media streams. if you set bitrate beyond the programs compliancy it will not convert/author the DVD...

 

VSO ConvertXtoDVD is very easy to use and very good. I will admit that the trial of CCE would not accept my XVID, which covers 90% of my downloads, so that was the end of it but I was sure it had a bitrate setting. Can`t add anything new here, except to say that I can recommend VSO`s "convertxtodvd". Does a great job for me converting avi`s to dvd.
It`s not only easy to use, but produces great results.

 

sorry about drifting off with this thread..but I looked at the doom9 link..My version dont have that..!! I wonder if it's an older version..? I only have a very small amount of set options..of course..it is a 2005 build

The version in the guide is version 2.70, the latest I think. Going to About should show what version you have but, if the video is automatically resized for you in CCE and all works fine, I wouldn't upgrade. Actually, I didn't know CCE ever did that, seems better.

does'nt it matter that santa is a free trial. wont it come up with trial thru the screen once converted and burnt?

Santa is a horrible mpeg encoder, I have used it and my dad used it for a while, and everything produced with it was buggy, laggy, and pixelated. I persoanlly use TMPEG for ALL my mpeg encoding, however we needn't get into a discussion of encoders since they're a matter of preference. If your existing program is working for you in all ways except that, then use it. Set it to prep for dvd-9 not dvd-5 if this is an option. If not then see if you can get it to create an ISO then you can use another program something like dvdshrink to compress the ISO down to a burnable size for a single layer dvd.

 

ok well like i said i use

cucusoft and the results are good and its very quick at converting but movies over 800mb avi i cant burn coz itconverts them too big

i tried out that vso that a few people mentioned and it fits to dvd bigger movies but its much slower to convert and the results are about the same

still havent use dvd santa or tmpeg

 

I would get ahold of support because that's not correct and you shouldn't find VSO very slow, it's actually quite fast. Even faster is WinAvi, maybe have a look at that trial.
