ok heres what i got I brought a cd-rw/dvd drive from computer show from what i can get off the device it is ATAPI rom version tf30 version #050 I located a Atapi driver to install and when i installed driver a blue screen came up and said express install cd-rom driver I hit enter and ERROR cannot create directory or acess file.but it my c drive it made a folder named CDPRO.windows doesnt see the cd-rom

then you don't need to load a driver for it as xp uses it's own generic driver. get rid of what you have done. is the rom driver alone or with another drive on same cable? what is that drive jumpered as as in master, slave or cable select?
i have no idea there was a opening in the back where i took out the old one put the new in the same hole and xp didnt see the new drive and doesnt show up
a jumper is a shunt that connects 2 pins together. is a piece of square thin plastic usually black but can be white, red, yellow or blue with a bit of copper to connect the 2 pins together. when looking at the back end of the drive with the power connector on the right side, you'll see what is usually 2 rows of 3 pins with the jumper on 1 top pin & 1 bottom pin.
