I've been using Exact Audio Copy with Lame version 3.90.3 for about 6 months. I was reading on some websites that there are new versions of both EAC and the Lame encoder. I downloaded both and seem to be having a few problems. In the old combo of EAC and Lame when I typed in "--alt preset extreme" in the additional command line options box the resulting VBR MP3 files bitrates would fluctuate between 32 kBps and 320 kBps.

I set up the new versions of EAC and Lame how I did with the previous combo and everything was fine until it came to encoding to MP3. I put in "--alt preset extreme" in the additional command line options box and the resulting MP3 files have weird bitrates. Normally the bitrates would fluctuate between 32 and 320. But most of the songs stay at 192 or occasionaly there may be a frame which has 191, 190 or 193.

What am I doing wrong? Is there a way to make the bitrates fluctuate like they did with Lame version 3.90.3 or is 3.97 supposed to be like this? If someone could help me I would be very grateful. Thanks

Don't worry everyone. I had a look on the forums at Hydrogen Audio and managed to solve the problem myself. Im definately using Lame 3.97 from now on.
