Okay, I'm not the best to deal with the TV, but the people that came to install the system for my parents did a crappy job, and I wanted to know if there was someway I can get this figured out. Here is a pic of the back side of the Receiver we have:

It's a Denon AVR-1705. Now when it was all hooked up, it had component going from the receiver to the Satellite box, then an S-Video Cable going from the Satellite box to the TV.

Then for the VCR (since my nieces and nephews like the Disney movies we have), it was just connected to another input on the back of the TV. So we didn't get sound from the receiver and had to use the TV Volume.

And the DVD Player that was hooked up, was hooked up to the receiver, but when you switched to DVD Player, it would still show the picture for the Satellite (me thinking it's because of the S-Video).

So I just need some help trying to configure the setup so that they are all connected to the receiver! I've tried plugging just video into Monitor Out, and plugging that into the TV Video In, but I don't get a picture. Like it was set to VCR when all plugged up to the receiver and all there was, was sound.

So if anyone could help me out, I would greatly appreciate it! I'm not the best with the Home Theater stuff...

I'm having a hard time reading the text on the back of the receiver, but it looks like you should have the right combo of inputs/outputs.

My first question would be...what kind of video/audio can their satellite/DVD utlize? If you can, I'd use component cables (Red, Blue, Green) OUT for both the Satellite and the DVD player (into those same slots on the back of the receiver) and then Optical audio OUT for both as well into the slots marked Opt 1 and Opt 2. If you don't have the capability for Component or Digital audio, I would make an adjustment to RCA cables for audio and video (or S-Video for video). Basically, I would wire to the best video and audio out from the source into the receiver...then that one Monitor out video cable into the TV's input should be all you need assuming you have all the sound wired through the receiver.

Let me know if this helps any!

This is probably the easiest way to hook everything up. Do each component one at a time. OUT from the component, IN to the receiver. Start with the DVD PLAYER. Run the cables from DVD's VIDEO/AUDIO OUT into the RECEIVER'S DVD VIDEO/AUDIO IN. Find the VIDEO OUT to TV on the back of the receiver which is usually YELLOW and connect that to the TV VIDEO INPUT. Select DVD on the receiver and make sure you get picture and sound when switched to DVD on the receiver. Then move onto every other component and make sure you get picture and sound when switched to that component. Just remember that the RECEIVER is the central control unit for all components so when you choose whatever component on the receiver then it should respond. Hopefully this will help you.

I've seem to have got everything working! The only thing that won't work is the VCR that's hooked up. I think it's cause it's an older one, and that we should just buy a new one.

    Thanks for all the help!
