I have just tried to do a copy of Pirates of the Caribbean and Bruce Almighty using Shrink DVD and Nero to burn and both of the films play lovely till you get to within ten mins of the end of the film then it goes tits up (jumping forward)!! I did the Pirates to 4.6gb size and Bruce to Just over 4gb so it didnt run too near the end of the disk to get the same problem I have read so many threads on this forum i'm confused??? Can anyone please help me?? If you want more info please ask as i'm still new to all this Thx
First of all, you shouldn't try to burn anything onto a DVDr that's larger than 4.37gb. They say they are 4.7gb, but that's using a different scale than Windows uses to identify file size. As for your skipping problem....try these: 1) Change yer media. Cheapo media will have issues near the end of the flick, as well as other problems too numerous to mention here. Use a name brand quality media like Maxell, Ritek, TDK etc. 2) Record the DVDr at a slower speed. Some burners don't do well at 4x. Try 1x.
Thx m8, the dvd+r disks i am using are Packard Bell!! I take it they r crap?? Plus the second film i copied was about 4.2gb why wasnt that ok?
Packard Bell are not the best media to use but you can use them if you just make the final DVD file size 4.3GB or under. If you always do this, the end will not get choppy or freeze. PS, you can set DVD Shrink to output your chosen size by clicking on [bold]Edit[/bold] / [bold]Preferences[/bold] then select [bold]Custom[/bold] under [bold]Target DVD Size[/bold] and then put in your chosen DVD file size. Once this is done, every time you compress a DVD, it will compress upto your chosen DVD file size. Easy! Good Luck
If the media is really crappy it doesn't matter how small you make the files it won't play correctly. I have some very poor Princo -RW that skip and jump from any point in the movie. Just buy something decent.
That could of being the media, but it is most likely a buffer-under run. Make sure buffer-under run protection is enabled on your DVD drive (If suported).
You have to ask yourself whether it's worth buying cheap media and having to compress all your movies to under 4.2GB or if you want to spend a bit more and not have to worry about it. Buffer underruns should not even figure if you have a fast hard drive and a decent burner set up correctly. (especially as they all have buffer under run protection anyway) A buffer underrun would terminate the burn and knock out a coaster
This is what you have to do: 1. Make sure Buffer-under run protection is enabled on your burner. 2. Make sure that your DVD file size is 4.3GB or under. 3. You have the latest ASPI drivers installed. 4. You burn with a good burning program like Nero etc. Thats it, you should have no more problems.

Just curious and not meaning to get anyone confused......but why is it necessary to update/download the ASPI drivers???????
I'm just doing wot all you good people tell me to try!! And yes XP doesn't have them!! Wot do they do?
#Ed, ASPI drivers are used for an interface between your DVD drives etc and your DVD software. These are important files which make all the difference when backing up DVDs. Good luck
