Hi, im 14 years old. and am a gamer, and I would like to build my own computer, but, i have no clue what to do, i read the offical thread on building comps, and i didnt understand ne of it,, so im just gona buy one i guess, and i was hoping you could guide me to a great pc for gaming, a moniter is not an issue, i would just like a good gaming tower, meant for games (Call Of Duty) online, the computer i am using right now isnt the best, and is really slowing down, since are whole family uses it, but this christmas my paraents are letting me pick out a comp. please post suggestions on what to buy. thanks
go with either amd or intel cpu BUT don't get a name brand machine get a clone as you can upgrade better. get 512meg of ram, 80+ gig harddrive prefer maxtor, 128 to 256 meg videocard either ATI or Nvidia, dvd burner, case fans to push air thru case. on old computer download ad-aware se from lavasoft to get rid of spyware which is probably slowing down system
awesome thanks man,,, is there a place i could like buy that all together? or is it gona have to be seprate? thanks alot man,
www.ibuypower.com sells some nice machines . i have purchased three machine from this company and all have been great . my personal machines are hand built by myself as i get all the nice parts that i want this way . have you thought about maybe just upgrading what you have ? you can save a bunch of cash if you go this route .
do it this time as you'll have to replace powersupply in old computer also this way there is 2 computers: yours & theirs. where are you located, us, uk or what??
I am located in the US, and i would up grade it, but im not quite sure what to do. and they did offer to buy a comp for me,, but, it does seem alot cheaper to upgrade, or build it myself.. but, i still dont know what i am doing. thanks for all your help..
what is the price range for the new pc ? there are plenty of places that sell nice gaming rigs . how much are they willing to spend for this pc ?
I'd agree with ddp here. Newegg is probably the best place for you to go. They have an excellent staff that, I'm not sure will help you out with any technical questions, but will definitely help you in any way they can. Plus, if you accidentally break something they're probably going to be your best bet for returning it. 95% of the time they're super fast in shipping. I once overnighted a few memory sticks, case and a hard drive and it took almost 5 days to get here, due to getting lost somewhere in Tennessee. Newegg bitched at fed ex and fed ex called me personally to apologize. Then newegg (or fedex) refunded my total shipping costs and gave me a 10% off coupon. Great service Newegg has. I'd go with them all the way.
Hey For your old computer Have a read of the first post of this thread: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/128251 Post your HiJackThis log here and ill have a look at it for you, and see if i can see anything that will be slowing down your PC. Just run all the programs first then post. From what i have heard, Newegg are suppose to be good (i dont live in US). For a gaming machine, AMD processors are recommended, and 512mb RAM MINIMUM. These days 120G hard drives are coming common in computers. As for Graphics, a 128mb MIGHT do, but if your parents are paying might as well go for the 256mb (*wink* *wink*) hehe Have they set a budget for this PC, as in the max they will pay, people may beable to point you in the right direction then. If you want a quick PC, I would get a 10,000rpm HD (Western Digital make a stonking one), get the fastest processor you can, I would go for the 64bit Athlon & 400DDR RAM (at least 512 better still 1gig) A 6800 Nvidia card should round it off. My mate has this set up, Far Cry & Doom3 absolutely kicks ass!
whatever hd you get in system get a hd cooling fan with ball bearings not sleave bearing to cool down hd as can be pretty warm to the touch. also get a couple cae fans, 1 in front of case to pull air in & 2nd to push air out at back of case. i'm running total of 9 fans in my system
Thanks guys, the price range is 500 bucks, american bucks, a 10,000rpm hd, thats insane isnt it? but iwas defintly looking at the 400 gig 7,200rpm western digital ones, and i will check out all those webistes, thanks....
