Ok...bare with me...I have successfully backed up 5 of my DVD's using Shrink + Nero.Im using LiteOn DVDRW drive and Memorex DVD+R media. All successful on standalones(Apex and General Electric). Now,...my brother's comp is running XP. He got the Media Center package comp from Gateway so I'm not sure of the DVDRW drive brand. I tried using Shrink + Nero, just as on mine as well as the same media. Everything seems to work smoothly. The encoding on his comp with Shrink runs @ about 6,500kb/s(twice as fast as on my pc) and the automatic writing to disc thereafter writes @ 4X exactly as my pc did. However, after it spits the disc out(burn successful) it will not play in either the Apex or the General Electric stand alone's.(Will play on pc, but a little choppy at times.) This has to rule out the media since Memorex works well when burned on my pc in all of the stand alones. What could it be? A setting in Shrink? (His settings are set same as on my shrink but I do not know how this coincides with his DVDRW drive since it is a diff brand) Here's the kicker though. Several months ago, we burned at least 20 copies on his pc using Shrink + Gear(standard edition). But, that was a trial period. I do not understand why the Shrink/Nero method works fine with my pc and only appears to work fine on his. Is the Encoding in Shrink on his too fast?? or does that matter?....whew ok, please, any help is much appreciated.
Not does it not rule out the media, it in fact points a finger to it - I will admit that it does show you to be extremely lucky using Memorex. Memorex has posted figures as high as 50% coasters, not what I would call an impressive record - Let’s get your media straightened out - 1. Cheap media skips, fuzzes, freezes, pixelats, partially jams and of course, our good old standby, either doesn’t burn or doesn’t play at all :-( Cheap media is great for text, Data, Spreadsheets, .Jpg and .Gif pictures and is good even for MP3 music BUT for DVD backups - BLAaaaaaT! It SUCKTH in an extremely great way ! 2. Top flight media is needed for DVD reproduction ! Ritek G04's or Verbatim are what we’re looking for OR any media boasting “Advanced AZO Metal Dye”, this indicates a superior dye application, while they are a bit “pricey” they are acceptable. Question - If you make coasters out of 3 cheap discs and good copies from 3 Verbatim discs or 3 Ritek G04 discs - which ones then are too expensive ? Anyway, I suggest a madia change - Pete
Thanks Nephilim, check this out For all "O" them that didn't get what I was trying to say, may I offer up for your consideration a page from my "Uncle" ScubaPete's book of translations - [bold] "SUCKTH" tends to mean it's snot, snot (got to grab my handkerchief, my nose be clogged - "Brrraaaattt" - yep, that's better) as I was sayin, it tends to mean it's NOT good for our porpoises (that was a fish joke). [/bold] Moving on - When I wrote - I wish to make perfectly clear that I was NOT recommending that anyone go buy some media named [bold]"Top Flight"![/bold] There, I can now sleep the sleep of the pure of post ) G’nite all -
