Hello I had windows 2000 installed on my PC. Also i have a BenQ external DVD writer which which would be attached to the PC over a USB port. Later 2 weeks ago, i installed windows XP and now im not able to play any DVDs on the BenQ writer. i get a message Hi SPEED USB HOST CONTROLLER CONNECTED OVER A LOW SPEED DEVICE. When inquired found that along with XP, i need to install service pack 1a and SP2 in order to run DVDs. Can anyone please help me with this. where can i get sp1a and sp2 from? i already tried to download it from microsoft.com, but it says i dont have a valid license of windows..so i cant do it from there... any other suggestions as to where can i get this from... vasu.
check this link about getting updates as it works. http://www.boingboing.net/2005/07/28/microsoft_genuine_ad.html
Tried that... but still have the same problem.. It says registry Key is invalid.. Update failed... As suggested in the link I pasted the code in the address bar and pressed Enter just before clicking on "Express Installation" But in vain.. What do I do .. I need to solve it ASAP... Vasu
works for me. you typed in at the address bar that line from the link when it comes up with both custom & express options than pressed enter before clicking on 1 of those 2 options, correct??
Just curious ???? When you installed XP , why did you not use an up to date version with SP2 already integrated into Windows XP ??
I got that from my friend. so guess the version he had...did not include SP1 or 2... so what do u suggest i may do?
Even I have SP1 on a CD..which measures about 139 MB. but the problem remains the same. before installing it checks for the XP license key. is it possible that i can change the license key...or download windows XP with SP2 from anywhere....and install it on my system.
Microsoft says that SP1 is all the updates that are available since XP came out until the service pack came out , all rolled up into a nice little package. But in amongst all the updates are some bonuses. One of which is the ability to look for and find invalid keys. Such as the one that started : FCKGW... for the XP PRO Corporate edition. If you have a valid key, you will never know it checked it out , if you do not have a valid key, it will not let you install SP1. Sorry....
if you run that link i posted it bypasses the validation as i've done that a number of times with sp1
