Okay i got a new computer. Its specs are AMD athlon 64 X2 dual core processor 4400+, 2 gig of ram and a standard edition NVIDIA Geforce graphics card 6150. My problem is this. When i first got the computer i could use convertxtodvd winavi cucusoft avi to dvd converter or any one for that matter. Never had a problem would convert and burn fine at like 30% Cpu usage. Now a couple months later it runs at 100% cpu usage and will shut down after 5 minutes. Doesn't matter what program i used. Trust me I've tried em all and it does the same thing so I'm guessing its not the software its the hardware.I'm running windows vista. The computer stays running all the time.Do you think that is the problem....that maybe the parts are being burnt out sooner because its left on all day and night? I heard it was good to leave it on to not burn out the parts but maybe i heard wrong. What programs do you recoomend to monitor such things or is there any way to run a hardware diagnostics check on all that stuff to narrow it down with whats causing the problem? Ok for spyware i use lavasoft and i have norton internet security and antivrus. I use ccleaner to clean up the computer and fix registry problems. I run the spyware and anti virus check probably 2 or 3 times a week along with all the computer clean up and i also go through internet options and clean it that way.
I shut my computers down when I'm not using them. If you fried something then you would probably have bigger problems than what you have now. Even if it's running at 100% it should not shut down. Encoding is intensive and a CPU running at "full throttle" is not out of the ordinary. When I build a PC one of the tests I do is to run the CPU at 100% for several hours. It should not crash. I suggest you download and install the trial version of Lavalsys Everest Ultimate. This is a PC monitoring program that will let you monior your CPU temperature as well as a bunch of other stuff. This program is one of the best. Download: http://www.lavalys.com/products/download.php?ps=UE&lang=en Install and open. Click past the "Purchase Now" box. On the right Click "Computer" then click Sensor. You should be able to see what your CPU temperature is. It's going to be higher at 100%. Leaving Everest open, try running one of your programs and see what the temperature reaches. It should stay below 65C. I'm not all that familiar with AMD thermal specs but I did see a list that specs the max temp for a Athlon 64 X2 4400+ at 65C. If yours is overheating you need to clean the fan and heatsink. Take a look at what other processes are running in the background. I normally do this by opening Task Manager, clicking the Processes tab, click User Name to bring the non system processes to the top and then click CPU to see what one is using the most. I don't run Vista so I'm not sure if this is the same. You can also use CCleaner to see what programs are automatically starting up. Open CCleaner, click Tools then click the Startup button. Eliminate any you don't think you need. Generally you can start programs manually. Firewalls and anti-virus programs should be allowed to start automatically. You can run benchmarks and other tests with Everest so I'd run those. Also make sure the specs are equal to what you have... If Everest only lists 1 gig of RAM on a 2 gig system, then that would be something to check as well.
Ok i have the fully installed working version of everest. I ran a couple of the programs like i would normally and had everest running in the background. Without the converting software CPU #1/Core #1 85 degrees celsius and CPU 2/ COre 2 103 degrees celsisus before i turned off the program... when nothings running they both sit at 30 degrees celsius and a little under. As soon as it hit 65 degrees the fans kicked on.
Oh my Game420 - this is like the 4th thread you have going on with this problem. No multi posting - it also gets very confusing for all trying to help you. I hate to close this one with fasfranks great advice but stick with this one: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/573982 (moving it to correct forum too)
