High Def Avi?

I have Avi files that i gues are done in High Def. I cant even watch em in a normal Media player I have to use a prog called video lan. any one know of a way to put these files on a Dvd.. every prog i tried so far has not worked. I even tried to use win avi converter

 

Isn't there any useful hint in http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/ ?
But first, check with GSpot there is not a codec problem.
