Been a long time reader and finally have a need to post. I have been searching for a solution and haven't found one yet and realize this topic is talked about to death but still would like some guidance. After doing numerous successful conversions with avi.net, I have a question regarding playback through avi.net. On some of my movies the audio and video get out of sync when I add it in to avi.net. This is what I have installed currently: k-like codec pack v3.9.0, avi.net v2.5.8.0, pgc.net v2.0.0.0, and the support tools off of avi.net’s website. I have been using dvdfab hd decrypter v5.0.2.5 to get the movie to my hard drive and then I use pgc.net to extract just the movie. After this is done, I open up the extracted movie through VLC and everything plays fine and to make sure everything is still in sync. I then add it into avi.net……when its done indexing and setting the aspect ratio and starts playing through avi.net, the audio and video are out of sync. It is also out of sync after its done converting. Is there something that I am doing wrong or is there something in the temp folder that avi.net creates that I could edit? My other thought is……could the type of encryption on the dvd be messing with the sync issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I can't comment on AVI.NET, but I have used 'AutoGK' to convert to AVI with good results using DVD's and mpeg transport streams as input. Run AGK select 'VTS_01_0.IFO' from the 'VIDEO_TS' folder (this ensures that the complete title is processed). Select an output location. Choose a 'Custom Size' for the output (700MB for a one hour movie), 'Add Job' and 'Start'. I let it run undisturbed overnight. http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_rippers/autogk.cfm
Thanks for the reply......correct me if I am wrong, but want that convert the entire dvd? I don't want all the menus and preview crap just the movie.
My advice is to continue to use dvdfab to rip the dvd (with the free version, you can have it rip the movie only), make sure you save the output as an ISO. Next use "fairuse wizard lite" to convert the ISO to Xvid or Divx. With fairuse theres no "hit or miss", I've been using it for 2 years and have never got an audio/sync conversion problem. http://www.fairusewizard.com/lang_en/fairuse_wizard_dvd_divx_xvid_backup_tool_light_edition.html If you want to continue to use avi.net, you might want to run the ripped files you have through "Fixvts", this can usually fix some problems with dvd files. But from my expierence some avi conversion programs are usually at fault with audio/sync problems.
