The DVD±RW drive will offer 8x DVD+R recording as well as improved HD-BURN performance for CD-R media. Based on Sanyo's technology, the DD0401 uses both chipset and PUH provided by Sanyo, but the mechanism is completely developed by Optorite. The basic specifications of the drive include 8x writing for DVD+R, 4x for DVD+RW and DVD-R, and 2x for DVD-RW. The maximum reading speed for DVD-ROM is set to 12x. In addition, the DD0401 offers 40x/ 24x/40x capabilities as a CD-RW drive. BURN-Proof technology is also available to prevent Buffer Under Run errors. The Pioneer 107 will be out the same time (ish) And I'd much rather buy a Pioneer than an Optowrite personally
Yeah, not really any point in running out and buying an 8x burner now since there is no media available at the minute that is manufactured 8x (i know that some 4x will record at 8x). I would rather wait, as Herbsman says, for the release of the Pioneer DVR107 and the Traxdata (Ritek) 8x DVD-R which will be around Christmas.
hopefully the new opto will support the vast array of media that it currently supports now. you can have any color, as long as it's black.
