I am the recently not so proud owner of a brand new durabrand walmart dvd player with 5.1 suround sound, naturally I would like to hook my ps2 up to this suround sound but I have tried everything I can think of to no avail, so anyone that might help and ANYONE THAT HAS HOOKED A PS@ or any system TO A DURABRAND DVD player please help me!

i am not familiar with what might be so special about a duraband dvd player from walmart but basically digital surround sound from a dvd player can only come from a DVD it is playing.
There are only Dolby digital outputs.
You would need a dolby digital input via either co-axial connection or fibre optic that loops through to the output.
And, apart from that, even if you could link a PS2 with a DVD player the best audio encoded into a game is pro-logicII. No dolby digtal. So i believe you will be dissapointed.
I have my PS2 connected via the external Toslink (fibre optic) output to a seperate Dolby digital decoder which can also output Dolby pro-logicII.
Your solution is to buy a seperate decoder preferably with both toslink and digital co-axial inputs that can output dolby prologicII, dolby digital and throw in DTS for good measure.
