I softmodded my Xbox a couple months ago, and I decided to update my version of XBMC last Wednesday. I FTP-ed the files fine, but I stupidly forgot to transfer the default.xbe file and had shut the Xbox off. Having the dashboard routed to the XBMC dashboard in the Apps folder, I was left with the Xbox and Microsoft logos greeting me when the Xbox was turned back on. Panic took over! For the next few days after, I tried various methods of boot discs, but I don't have a modchip so I realized they wouldn't work.

Anyway, today I decided to follow the hotswapping guide on this forum. I opened up the Xbox, got the HDD already, and practiced pausing my computer's booting process. I thought there was nothing that could stand in my way!

I logged into Windows and opened up Xplorer360 (Test Build v10), but the Xbox HDD wasn't found - though it was found in the Windows XP Device Manager. I knew it was hooked into the right IDE port (where the CD drive was originally), so I was baffled. I decided to try it again, so I loaded the Xbox HDD back into the Xbox and shut both the Xbox and PC off (Xbox currently works fine). When I tried to turn the PC back on, I got a message reading "Hard Disk Boot Failure. Insert System Disk Press Enter". Shock! Dismay! I loaded the BIOS setup and it appears to read the primary HDD fine. I'm assuming the BIOS or something is trying to look for the Xbox HDD while booting. If I plug the Xbox HDD back in, as if starting the hotswap, the PC will show the underscore for awhile and then print the error message again.

If anyone has a solution to the PC issue (primary concern), it would be much appreciated. Otherwise, if I need to hotswap again, could anyone tell me what I possibly did wrong?

Well, I just decided to use the XboxHDM hotswapping guide and return my Xbox to its stock state. If anyone has an answer for the PC boot problem, that'd be cool - but don't sweat it if you have no idea.

    Thanks for the guides!

wow bill, sorry i didn't see this quicker (you were burried under 5 posts). Anyway to reset your bios you have two options. You can either access the bios and revert to default settings. This should clear out any settings you previously changed. Or You can find the little battery on the computers mainboard and disconnect it for a couple mins. That should reset the bios and the computer should be back to normal. Make sure you're getting a good connection from your ide primary master to your os hard drive and slave to your 2nd if you have one. Also make sure where the primary ide cable connects is connected on the mainboard. I've seen people switch them to the secondary and be baffled why their computer wont boot.

For the xbox all you need is a set of C files and your eeprom. I have modded C files in my signature. Make sure to backup your eeprom first and then you can either ftp or hotswap and replace your C files with mine. When it reboots you should have avalaunch as your dash. You can easily download an AID disc and burn it to a dvdr and make your default dash xbox media center.

go to http://www.aidtracker.com and download the torrent, burn the iso to a dvdr as an image and then throw it in your xbox. The rest is self explanitory, and if you mess up you always have your eeprom to fix your mistakes.

Let me know if you have any questions.
