I have an old toshiba sattelite L-10 that I want to connect to my sony television. It is an older model, with the connectors like those used to connect the PS2 to a tv (three wires -yellow-white-red. I'm not sure which ports I have on the laptop, but there is a blue one (The monitor one I think), and some sort of yellow one. I can take pictures of them to make it easier for you to tell, but I'm not sure how to upload pics from my hard disk to this thread. All help is appreciated Thanks
Not sure what the yellow one is, picture would help, but the blue one is VGA. If the TV is standard def (which it sounds like it) then it will not give you a very good picture from your PC.
Thanks for the reply, my television is standard def. If a direct connection will give me a poor quality, then what is the best way for me to wacth avi files stored on my pc, on my tv. PS - My dvd player doesnt support divx Thanks for the reply EDIT - Could you tell me how to upload a pic to the site. (Sorry don't know how)
There isn't any better way of doing it, but standard definition TVs will always give a poor quality image of your desktop due to the lower resolution. However, full screen video shouldn't be too problematic. To upload a picture to afterdawn, go here: http://imageshack.us then upload your image. Copy the bottom link (direct link to image) and paste it here.
Alright here are the pics This is of the blue port http://img395.imageshack.us/img395/1962/dsc00347kn9.jpg And this is the yellow port I was talking about: http://img118.imageshack.us/img118/5274/dsc00348fz6.jpg Can the yellow one be used to conect to the television? If so how? Thanks EDIT- Don't know if this helps, but when I was taking the pic of the yellow port, I saw a little pic/imprint next to it. It was a sort of box, with a S in the middle, and an arrow going from the S out of the box.
That's an S-Video connector, so you want an S-Video to composite (RCA) adapter or cable to plug it into your TV. This should do the job: http://cables.com/Merchant5/merchan...ode=CARA&Product_Code=DCSV1RCA&Category_Code=
Thanks now that I have the name I can buy it from my local electric store. PS - When I connect then pc to the tele, what will I see? a pic of the desktop?? Thanks for answering my qeustions
If you enable TV mode in your graphics control panel, then yes. You may see it as a primary monitor (with your desktop icons) or it may show up as a secondary.
OK thanks again I'll tell you what happens once I buy the cable. PS- Will using the S-Video give better quality than the monitor cable.
Not really. A monitor cable would if anything potentially be better, but since your TV doesn't have a VGA input there's no need to use one - S-Video can deliver as good a picture as your TV will be able to produce.
