    First make sure that IF you have a firewall.Make a rule so ur xbox and have access to ur PC.Then Make sure the Sub Mask is on the same range.
    ---------------
    PC
    IP xxx.xxx.xxx.1
    SUB 255.255.255.0

    Xbox
    IP xxx.xxx.xxx.2
    SUB 255.255.255.0

    With that IT should work.What kind of setup are you using?

    Hub/Router -->XBOX or
    PC -->Xbox

    With the hub\router you can use a normal RJ-45 cable but with PC one YOu have to use a Cross-Over RJ-45 cable.

    It's a special kind of ethernet cable with cables that "Cross-over" in it. You can find it anywhere they sell Network cables, or you can even modify a straight cable but I wouldn't suggest it, but there are some how-to somewhere if you ever want to do it!

    A Cross-Over cable works like the Hub/router giving an IP to what ever NIC thats it's connected to.

    With a normal rj45 the cable thinks that the hub/router all ready provided the IP.

    Cross-over cables are good IF you only want to setup a local network with a few computers.It will save you alot of money then buying a hub/router.
