I can only write DVDs at 4x, but I have an 8x drive. It's the Memorex DVD+/-RW True8XI drive, I have the latest firmware in place, and it seems to happen no matter what. I've tried different brands of disc (Fuji, Memorex, HP), different functions (DVD copy vs. DVD creation) and I cannot figure it out. Of course, I've investigated all the options in Nero 6; for instance, I've tried assigning "8x" and I've tried assigning "maximum" as the speed. Is it because I don't have another DVD drive, and that's the fastest speed it can obtain when using an image from the hard drive? Thanks for your help!
Memorex and HP use some pretty crappy manufacturers like cmags. Fuji also uses some lower quality manufacturers along with taiyo yuden. The burner's firmware controls what it will burn and how fast. That media may be poor quality,so your firmware may limit you to 4x only speed. You use both formats,so I don't know which format best suits your needs. Get some quality japanese media and the format that performs best on your stand alone/s. Office Depot has a maxell sale, spindles of 50 for $15! Try getting a spindle of either format and make sure that outer shrink wrapper says made in Japan. Hitachi makes those japanese maxells in both formats. See if that higher quality media will bump you up to 8x.
Who makes Memorex true 8x? Memorex DVD+/-RW True-8X = Pioneer DVR-107D Memorex DVD+/-RW True8Xn = NEC ND-2500A Memorex DVDUR/RW 8412AJ = Liteon LDW-811S [bold]Memorex DVD+/-RW True8XI = Liteon SOHW-812S[/bold]
