I have 500 or so dvds with movies on them .Each disc has only the title of the movie on it and each movie is in its own case with a number on it, I have made up a list of all the titles and corresponding numbers. When I look down the list to find something to watch I often come across a title and have no idea what that movie is about or who is in it etc. There must be a better way to do this. I resently came across something called DVD Profiler. So far I haven't found any info on what this software does. Could someone give me a brief explanation. Also if anyone has a way that they have of setting up there collection ,I would appreciate hearing from you. Thanks. Rick6
If you look at this link you will have an idea at what this software can do -- Reading the reviews will also point out the particularities you can expect ! http://www.download.com/DVD-Profiler/3000-7970_4-10360214.html
Ok thanks. I now have a good idea what Dvd Profiler can do and I am not overly inpressed. Does anyone out there have a good method for organizing there dvd collecting. Please feel free to share. I won't tell. Thanks. Rick6
this is how i set my mom up. i bought her the cannon printer that takes seperate cartridges for every color as this cuts down on the expense of buying ink big time. i linked her to cdcovers.cc so she can print all of the dvd case artwork that gives you the rundown on what the movie is about . i had her lableing the dvd's for a while, but had her stop as some of the dvd's looked liked they were delaminating or getting air pockets inside the disc . sounds wierd i no . i will buy her one of those fancy printers that prints the lables right on the dvd instead of those junk peel and stick . then finally i couldnt handle the exspense of buying dozens of cases every week so i now dumpster dive about twice a week in all the local video shops dumpsters . i usaully can average about 300 a week . she has a closet completly filled with empty cases . it is hard for me to stop diving for them because of the price they get for them at the stores. i have about 8 blockbusters in about a 30mile radious ,plus 6 additional mom and pap shops . the funny thing is i got to reading a thread here at ad and that is where i got the idea from . the best days to go diving are sundays in the mid evening and wed in the mid evening . i have found plenty of cases everyday of the week but she has such a stock that i cut down to just two days a week as she is running out of room to put them . u guys should give it a try but wear dirty clothes because you must climb inside to get the job done as all the cases are inside garbage bags . the bags are only full of paper ,magazines and such . i also have scored well over 1000 vhs tapes that play wonderfully . i convert 2 to 3 a week to dvd as its not as easy as standerd burn as you all no. and have scavenged enough empty vhs cases to build a vacation home for myself. i hope maybe this will work for you as good as it works for my mom.
I use Microsoft Works CD/DVD Data Base. I have over 2000 CD's and a couple hundred DVD movies on inventory. What's nice about this program is it allows you to put the fields you want in such as Title/Rating/Info about the movie, etc. It automatically alphabitizes the titles. It also has a Print feature to print your complete inventory. Also the saved file is small (2000 CD Inventory about 500 kb). Anyone who has Microsoft Works installed can view your inventory. Also when I enter a new movie I go to http://www.imdb.com/ and get copy the info about the movie and then paste it into the record. This works very well. I hope this helps you.
Well, way to go on the dumpster diving tbiggs. Sounds like you found a good solution and become a first class recycler at the same time. However I think I'm going to take manestle up on his advice and check out that Microsoft works CD/DVD Data Base he mentioned. My goal is to have something small set up on the coffee table in front of the TV that I scroll through and choose a movie to watch and also get a discription of what it's about if I need to. If anyone else has some ideas on this please feel free to share them. Thanks. Rick6
Rick6, I think you will find Microsoft Works a really nice program. The CD/DVD Database for your inventory works great. It gives you various views of your records such as List View which will show all your records in ABC order so you can scroll down to find what movie you want and then choose Form View and that will bring up a single page view showing everything about the movie. When you design your CD/DVD Database you choose what and how you want it laid out. I have the movie title at the top then the catagory then rating then if it is a copy or store bought then the running time and the year it came out. at the bottom I have details about the movie. Good Luck!
