how can i shrink movie from DVD R DL to DVD R?

ok just wondering i want to make a copy of a dvd but its file is bigger then normal dvd disc and will only fit on dvd r dl discs. What programs do i need to make it fit onto a normal dvd r?

If you want better quality, use DVD-Rebuilder with Cinema Craft Encoder (CCE) or Procoder, or HCenc if you don't want to spend any money. This takes much longer (5-10 hours per disc) but gives better results. However, based on what I've seen, shrinking anything more than 10-20% is rather iffy. Generally, as I've seen, DVD Shrink, CloneDVD2, etc. should not be used for more than 10% compression, and DVD-RB w/ CCE not for more than 20-25% if you want to retain good quality. If I were doing backups, I wouldn't do any compression, but instead opt to remove extras or use DL discs. Whether this option is right for you depends on the quality you want to retain versus the amount of time and money you want to spend.

 

I have done all things said in the guide but it does not work in the DVD player in the Lounge Room but works in the DVD player in my room any reason why? Any quick solution? The DVD players are both DivX supported if that is anything but still would like it in the VIDEO_TS files as VOB etc.

Since the DVD works in your Standalone player in your Bedroom you know the DVD backup is fine. This is a compatibility issue with the player in the living room. Try different media (Brand) hopefully you can find media that will be compatible with both DVD players. Try Verbatims or Taiyo yudens.

I used to use all the other media (Sony/Memorex/Imation etc. etc) and had a heck of a time getting one brand to play on every stand alone player I had. I then switched over to Taiyo yudens and have never had a compatibility issue again. The DVD backups will play on every player in the house.

The player might say it can play all formats but that still does not mean your player will play all disc. The brand(Quality) of disc you use will come in effect as well.

 

But i know its not the disc thats causing the problem as iv had copyed all my other dvds with nero and has worked perfectly.

You asked the question and I gave you the most plausible answer. If 1 DVD player plays the DVD fine and another does not then it is a Media compatibility issue with the player that does not play the DVD.

 

Sorry I thought you ment it was the copyed DVD I had as other dvds iv copyed to the same disc work fine

 

I did say it is the media you are using on the copied (backup) DVD.

Allot of the media that you buy can be manufactured by different manufactures. So you can get different results from the same Brand of DVDs you might have bought 1 time then when you buy more again the second time.

So it is possible that you had no problems on the DVDs you used before but can run into problems when buying more of those same brand DVDs later if they where manufactured by a different company.

You can argue with me all you want and say it is not the media but this issue is most likely a media issue. You said yourself that the backup works fine on the DVD player in your bedroom.

So that means the DVD backed up fine and can be played. So that leaves media compatibility issue problem with the DVD player that will not play the same backup movie that your other DVD can play.

I would suggest buying some Verbatims or Taiyo Yudens.
