I apologize but I did post this to the Audio forum 1st, opppps Sorry I know the answer is in one of the forums somewhere, I have done a search with no luck & looked everywhere but I just can’t remember where I saw it! O.k. My problem is very strange, I downloaded alcohol 120% (trail version) it created a virtual drive (DVD Drive (E, no prob's until I tried to save a normal Microsoft Works Database file to CD (never had a problem before with such a simple task) It keep saying insert a CD-R / CD-RW, I didn't know what to do !! Also I could not do a print preview or print the document,(It works fine on Microsoft Works Processor and notepad etc) Another thing was every time I started up my laptop it said : Installing hp All-In-One Series hp pcs 1300 and it installs itself ! This also happens when I use other programs on my laptop ! My printer is a hp psc 1350 all-in-one and when I turn it on it creates a Removeable Disk (F and a icon for a hp psc 1300 series scanner. I uninstalled Alcohol 120% (trail version) because I wanted to buy the retail version and everything went back to normal !! I could save, print and the strange installations stopped. Now I have installed the retail version that I bought and sure enough the problems are back. Now (Im proberly wrong) but is it not that I need to change the DVD Drive letter to (F so that its not affecting the printer ? If not : What to do ? P.s I have no problems copying music, games or dvd's, Just problems with my file which I use alot, I need and would like to continue using + saving on to disk. (I suppose what I could do is uninstall Alcohol 120%, save my project, then when I need to copy a game etc : reinstall, but that seems a lot of unecessary bother) Sorry to go on a bit, hope you can help Thanks Lewis
Dont think you can change the virtual drive letter directly (the last program i knew that could do that was Paragon CD/DVD Emulator) but you can kinda work around it by introducing "filler" virtual drives (i.e., if you have C: as a harddisk and D: as a virtual drive but you need E:, just make 2 virtual drives)
It doesnt sound strange but only because I havnt done this since Ive used Paragon CD/DVD Emulator (and that was quite some time ago) but I can appreciate why you might be interested in doing that although nowadays there isnt really a need for that with the common applications With A120 there isnt a clean way of making an arbitrary drive letter with the virtual drives (not that I know anyways) but rather you have to "build towards" that drive letter ... so if you've got C, D and E and you need R ... you are gonna have to add a whole bunch of drives ... there might be a simple workaround that I'm overlooking
sounds hard !! Maybe that changing the letter is not the answer, if so what is ? Its really strange the installing thing ! When I shut down my laptop it displays : End Program - hpcmpmgr.exe Ending Program...Please wait If you chose to end the program immediately, you will lose any unsaved data. To end the program now, click End Now. Then it displays : The program is not responding, then it shuts down.
You can change the virtual drive letter in Alcohol by going into the Options, and under Virtual Drive select Drive Letter. Highlight the drive and click the Edit button and you can change the letter.
Thanks, I can change the letter but it did not help, I don't have a clue why its messing around! When I try to print, It displays : The printer driver is missing or not valid Run the windows setup program to install the printer software again. It works fine for everything else it just microsoft works database (About the only one I need !!!)
Are you running Windows XP? If so I'd say it's a driver conflict. Unfortunately this isn't as uncommon as you might think, especially with virtual drives. You might want to try downloading Daemon Tools just to see if it works. Of course since you paid for Alcohol that's not a very good long term solution, but it's worth seeing what happens.
I knew it was something simple like that ... hehe I'm more of a Daemon man myself hehe Are you certain this is a cd drive fault??
No to be honest im not sure where the fault is ! Im not sure as everything else works fine... I uninstalled the printer & reinstalled it - no luck, i'll try Daemon Tools now !! P.s yes it is xp
I downloaded deamon tools and I don't know how or why but everythings working fine now. Thanks alot for taking the time to read my posts it is VERY much appreciated. This site rocks !!
