After ripping the audio from a AVI file, how do i change the frequency response of the audio file. The audio is really tinny sounding. What program is best for this.

Audacity has a Bass Boost 'Effect' that can be used to add some body to the file.
This sample is an mp3 that had a boost around 400Hz - you can hear the difference around the ten second mark.
    Hope it helps.

I tried Audacity, but it's really something to learn. Any comments about Audacity to get me started.

    Thanks

Get the latest version and click 'Edit > 'Preferences' > 'Libraries'.
    Download the filters shown.
Now you can load and export mp3, ac3 and most any other audio file.
You can also drag an AVI file onto the window and it will load the audio portion.
After loading a file, you can click on the extreme left side of the window and use the drop down menu for the track.
You can split channels then perform many effects like amplify, rverb, etc.
Just about any audio editing function can be Googled using keywords like 'Audacity+remove vocals'
