i hate to have to reinstall windows every time the kids computer is running sluggishly from all the crap they install. how do i disable program installations using the regedit.
http://www.jsifaq.com/SF/Tips/Tip.aspx?id=3714 something like that may work. There are several kinds of programs out that that will log any programs you install so that they can be safely uninstalled.
Create limited user accounts for your kids which prevents them from installing "crap" control panel user accounts
I've been down that road giving everyone there own account but then my wife gives them access to the master account because they tell her they need to do something that they can't do on their account or they will hop on as soon as me or my wife hops off and forgets to log off. its like a war over here. so what i was thinking of doing was to create a copy of the registry before it starts acting up and run a script every time the computer shuts down to clear the registry and restore it to the back up i've made so its like starting fresh everytime.
What you need is a program like deepfreeze. With it your computer boots up in a frozen state. Theres no slowdown or anything except the computer is in a virtual mode. programs that don't require a reboot can be installed and run, wallpaper changed, files deleted on the c: drive including the registry, you can download and run viruses. When the computer is rebooted your back to the original configuaration again. The only time I boot thawed is when I have to update the antivirus or change the wallpaper, it's run rock solid since I've been using. Libraries use this program to keep there computers from getting corrupted from daily use. Only the person who has the password can change the way the computer bootsup.
