    hi
alot of the times depending on your router or service provider it could be
    username : admin
    passwoord : admin

or it could very well be the serial number of the router, if not you could always try resetting the router to factory reset to see if you could reset a new password , hope this might work , also post me the make of yr router and i could devil some more

    best wishes shaun

Thanks mate but that wont work as the password is an actual word sombody picked and has now forgotten! Im using netgear. I can use this comp to go see what the wireless networks details are but the password is encrypited, I know it has 8 letters or numbers.

how do you know its 8 letters? usually when theres 8 ******** in the password box, it usually stands for password so you dont really know how many letters it is. well, unless your sure its 8 letters.

depends on what type of router you have, go to something like 192.168.1.0 or somethign like that in your browser. then use

    username:admin
    password:admin

unless you already knew that, then i dont know what else to do.

edit: nevermind, you post said somebody actually changed it. so i dont think theres a way, i mean its protected for a reason. so i think the only way i can think of is another router. sorry. maybe someone else can help
