    Hi there!
I have recently acquired a 150 gig hdd from a used pc, it works fine, I formatted it as to install vista on a new pc on which I was using a 30 gig hdd ( wayyyy not big enough to run Vista), but when I install into the pc the bios wont even pick up the drive. when i connect it to my other pc it picks up fine because before i formatted i retrieved the information i wanted from it. Any suggestions on what im doing wrong???

you dont give near enough or the right information

    Just a guess...

Your using XP and without service pack two or higher the Os only recognizes the same drive...once XPsp2 is installed you'll be able to recognize 127 GB and up and then do your data transfer

    ok info wise...
i built a new pc for my daughter had a faulty hdd so i used a 30 gig hdd to install vista, then my moms mobo failed so she gave me the 150 hdd to put in my daughters pc. i removed the 30 used my own pc to format the 150 after removing my moms personal stuff. now when i put it in the empty puter for my daughter it will not pick to install from vista dvd. there is no jumper on the back so i assumed it would show as master, am i wrong? is there any other info you need... im totally lost here, i was going to try to put xp on first then upgrade with my vista but the drive doesnt pick up so i cant even do that. i was told i cant install from my own pc cause it would be configured to my pc and not my daughters which is totally different.... anything? short of taking it to someone who knows what they are doing...heehee

Regarding the jumper & slave drives installed as well as master, some drives are fickle which is why ddp mentioned wd & remove jumper so check that side of things, the drive should have a diagram on it if not the website then, the other is BIOS is the slave drive setting set to on or auto or detect,i have an old dell that needs that enabled to see 2ndry drive so just a thought, another thing it could be a faulty ribbon cable switching with the dvd drives ribbon will confirm if this is so,yeah well that's about all i got apart from is there such a thing as a secondary drive controller driver for the mobo,ok i'm really stretching for ideas now

clushman, put the jumper on as master, info should be printed on top of drive & on bottom of drive. what are the specs of the pc?
