I have lots of Region 1,2 and 4 DVDs which I can happily play on my stand alone DVD player. However they also include many DVD-ROM features such as games which wont work with my pc's region 2 fixed DVD. I have seen downloads on Afterdawn for disabling regions - but before I undertake this what do I need to know about my pc's configuration to be sure it will work and not end up messing up my DVD-ROM alltogether
If your drive is physically locked (RPC2), you need to "downgrade" your drive's firmware (the piece of software, kinda like BIOS, in your drive's memory) to non-region locked one (RPC1). Most of the drives have hacked firmwares available that allow you to do this, this is _the_ site to check: http://perso.club-internet.fr/farzeno/firmware/
