I have Salsa music which is too fast to teach people to dance to. Is there a software tool I can use to slow down the .mp3 or .wav files by about 10 t0 20%. There is no vocals so it does not matter if the music does not sound quite right. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Regards,

Most audio-editors softwares can do that. You can download shareware / trial version of Goldwave (=shareware) or SoundForge (=trial)to do that. There ougth to be some freeware tools too , but am too arsed to get heavy with google today (did do that yesterday too much..:))
    Goldwave: http://www.goldwave.com/
    Sound Forge:
    http://www.sonicfoundry.com/download/step1.asp?CatID=1

Terminology usually used on sound editors to do what you're up to is referred as:
    a) Pitch = slows/speeds up rate, also alters vocalist tone (you know, chip munk effect..:)), pitch is "standard" audio-editing terminology, others mentioned are actually "pitched" too, but tries to use different algoritms/filters, usually trying to keep vocalists tone same while backround music speed is altered. Can produce very poor results, so use with caution..;)
such kind of filtering is called as:
    B) Time Warp (GoldWave filter, -->effects--->Time Warp)
    C) Sound Forge uses similar kinds of filters, names escapes my memory for now.
Edit: Just checked out, opened forge, and suprise suprise, technique is called as "Time Stretch, --->process-->Time Stretch

Generally speaking, Forge is more advanced too you're not going to buy it, I'll bet on that..;)

    Hope that helped you.

I believe that the WaveEditor that's normally packaged with Nero can slow down .WAV files.

I know that the Sound Recorder program within Win98 can alter the pitch/speed of .WAV files.

If you want to use a free program then go for Sonique! It has an adjustable pitch and is easy to use.

You can also download a plug-in from Nullsoft web pages for WinAmp (2.x) to do that.
