How do I take stuff from my DVD disc and put it on my comp?

    Is there anyway I can convert like my DVD discs to an avi or something so I can watch it in Windows Media Player/watch it without using the disc/be able to send it to someone? I know nothing about what it is/called, can someone help/tell me what to use?

    Lots of programs out there that can do this FlaskMPG, DVDx, DVD2SVCD to name 3.
