I've got some rare 80s movies on VHS that are not available on DVD. I want to transfer these movies to DVD, but my VCR/DVD combo unit will not allow me to burn a copy-protected VHS movie. Is there any way around this? Not looking to make a profit and sell these; I just don't want to risk ruining the tape or getting it stuck in the VCR so I prefer the movies on DVD. These are for my own personal viewing pleasure.
Unless the unit has separate video 'out' from the VCR and video 'in' to the DVD recorder, so that you can insert a 'video stabilizer' between them, you can't do it with this equipment. I assume you have tested more than one or two tapes, I found that most of my commercial tapes did not have Macrovision (Total Recall and Disney excepted).
This problem is solved for a long time I can recommend one firm which can solve it. I have found here such site http://xdimax.com/grex/grex.html. They have a device - GREX, I heard that with its help it is possible to block protection DVD and satellite tv-channels and to write down transfers on the dvd. Good luck!
I had the same problem - Newer VHS players are made to work with VHS encryption to prevent transfer to DVD!!! I used an older DVD player from back in the 1990s and it transfers fine thru the PC Capture devices. Go to a pawn shop, Goodwill, or Salvation Army store where older used equipt is available and get one, you'll be happy you did as long as it is working order )
