I'm in a college campus and I want to start a server on the school's network so that I can store word files on it. Well what I really want to do is start like a college newspaper and I want people to put articles on it through the network. Also I'm thinking of putting up articles so that they can read about it. Not only this but I want to put program files like firefox winzip and other utility that is freeware on it so people can use it prevent hackers, virus, etc stuff on their comps. I hope this all makes sense. You know on the school network some people have created their own servers for files...kind of like a shared file but to access it. I right clicked, new, then clicked shortcut and typed-> \\whateverhere and then I could access it from the desktop. Know what I mean? I hope someone can help me.

Does Apache have anything to do with this? Or mysql? or windows server 2003? PhpmyAdmin? or easyphp? I haven't used these programs before so I don't know how they work...

THat too but I want something you can just have people to access without going to the "my network" You know I got into some of the files they have here on the network by going to New->shortcut-> then typing \\"whatever goes here whether IP address or name" Then I could access it from my desktop. How do I do this?
